Statement of Purpose
I grew up in a century where I observed the world divided by borders was getting
digitally united; the divergent race converged on digital platforms. The discovery of radio,
television, telephone and cellular technology has revolutionized the face of primitive science
and, thereby, diminishing the physical frontiers of communication. Not only such electronic
technologies were transforming the mechanical world, but also they transformed my fantasies,
ideologies and curiosities. I got attracted towards the functioning and implementation part of this
flourishing technology, instinctively. And thus, I was determined to engross myself in this
diverse field of electronics from my high school years.

My ambitions for pursuing studies in Electronic Engineering was fulfilled when I took
admission in Gujarat Technological University; one of the state’s largest university, after
completing my high school with good grades. During my undergraduate studies (4-Year
program), I learnt VLSI, Image processing, Power systems, Pulse and digital circuits,
Microprocessors & Microcontrollers and simulation using MatLab software. Thinking out-of-
the-box was always one of my strongest aspects which enabled me to learn lots of new stuff.

The undergraduate studies provided me a clear and distinct summary of each major
subject of the field. This helped me to formulate and diversify my subject of interest. I had
developed various projects and had presented it in the events conducted by our college.

Being in the final year of Bachelor of Engineering, I am currently working on a project

called “FINGERPRINT RECOGNITION THROUGH IMAGE PROCESSING”. A major
approach for fingerprint recognition today is to extract minutiae from fingerprint images and to
perform fingerprint matching based on the number of corresponding minutiae pairings. One of
the most difficult problems in fingerprint recognition has been that the recognition performance
is significantly influenced by fingertip surface condition, which may vary depending on
environmental or personal causes. Addressing this problem, this project presents a fingerprint
recognition algorithm using image matching. The use of phase components in 2D discrete
Fourier transforms of fingerprint images makes possible to achieve highly robust fingerprint
recognition for low-quality fingerprints. Experimental evaluation using a set of fingerprint
images captured from fingertip with difficult conditions that is dry fingertip, rough fingertip,
allergic-skin fingertip, etc. demonstrates an efficient recognition performance of the proposed
algorithm and compare it with different algorithms.

I also took part in national level robotics championship Robotryst (2013) organized by
Robosapiens in association with IIT-Delhi and my team secured 3rd Position in zonal round. My
responsibilities included being a Robot Programmer, Designing of Robot and Battery
Maintainer. The language used was 'Bascom AVR' and IC's programmed were Atmega16.

Apart from curriculum, various expert talks and seminars on Data communication and
networking, and Embedded Systems by notable faculty from IIT-Mumbai and from Prolific
Systems and Technologies torched the prospects into the present and future scope of various
subjects of field.

To further enhance my knowledge I underwent an Industrial visit at BSNL, a government

owned company which is the largest provider of fixed telephony in India. There I was exposed to
the various innovations in telecommunication systems ever since the advent of telephones. Even
a working model of the now-obsolete “relay based switching system” was there which provided
me with a shrewd insight of how an archaic telephone switching system performed.

I feel fortunate to be a part of the university which actively organizes student’s welfare
and learning related events. Under my university’s International Exchange Program (IEP) and
for my better academics, I got an opportunity to visit Kansas State University, US from
06/13/2015 to 08/08/2015 in 7th Semester. I learned Digital signal processing and Wireless
communication as a part of my curriculum there. This experience made me determined to do my
Master’s from a good university in the United States of America.

My CPI till 6th Semester is 6.76 which is First Class. I have a GRE score of 298. I have
acquired 156 in Quantitative Reasoning and 142 in Verbal Reasoning with 3 points in the AWA.
Moreover, I have got a competitive score in IELTS which is 7 bands.

However, not to forget my extrovertly interests like Camping and Mountaineering which
always made me curious about this field to pursue. Difficulties like communication breakdown,
network issues and call drops were frequent. This added fuel in the burning fire of my desire to
pursue a field which could resolve such problems. And so I can say my entire personal and
curricular life circled me to be a part of such outstanding and flourishing field of electronics and
communication.

My career objective is to put my abilities and interest together. I strongly believe that
graduate studies at University of Colorado at Denver is the best way that can really help me
achieve my goal. As the electrical engineering program stresses the rigorous scientific and
theoretical foundations of the discipline so that graduates can enter any advanced level
educational program with the critical thinking skills needed for success. I wish to gain a more
global perspective and expand my horizon. If I am given a chance to be a part of your esteemed
educational diaspora, I am confident of contributing myself in the field of research. I look up for
graduate studies in the department of Electrical Engineering & Related Subjects at your
esteemed institution as an opening to develop my skills and give direction to my career & to
fulfill my core ideas.
