MEDIUMS:

 Tempera also known as egg tempera, is a permanent, fast-drying painting medium

consisting of colored pigments mixed with a water-soluble binder medium.
 Fresco is a technique of mural painting executed upon freshly-laid or wet lime
plaster. Water is used as the vehicle for the pigment to merge with the plaster, and
with the setting of the plaster, the painting becomes an integral part of the wall. The
fresco technique has been employed since antiquity and is closely associated
with Italian Renaissance painting.
 Oil paint is a type of slow-drying paint that consists of particles
of pigment suspended in a drying oil, commonly linseed oil. Oil paints have been
used in Europe since the 12th century for simple decoration, but were not widely
adopted as an artistic medium until the early 15th century. Common modern
applications of oil paint are in finishing and protection of wood in buildings and
exposed metal structures such as ships and bridges. Its hard-wearing properties and
luminous colors make it desirable for both interior and exterior use on wood and
metal. Due to its slow-drying properties, it has recently been used in paint-on-glass
animation.

 Acrylic paint is a fast-drying paint made of pigment suspended in acrylic

polymer emulsion. Acrylic paints are water-soluble, but become water-resistant when
dry. Depending on how much the paint is diluted with water, or modified with acrylic
gels, media, or pastes, the finished acrylic painting can resemble a watercolor or
an oil painting, or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with other
media.

 Watercolor is a painting method in which the paints are made

of pigments suspended in a water-based solution. The traditional and most
common support for watercolor paintings is paper. Other supports include papyrus,
bark papers, plastics, vellum, leather, fabric, wood and canvas. Watercolor paper is
often made entirely or partially with cotton, which gives a good texture and
minimizes distortion when wet. Watercolors are usually translucent, and appear
luminous because the pigments are laid down in a pure form with few types of filler

obscuring the pigment colors. Watercolors can also be made opaque by

adding Chinese white.

 Inks undoubtedly stand as a medium on their own, but are also great in mixed
media pieces, used as washes to unify areas in drawing, collage and pastel. When
choosing which type of inks to buy, the main considerations are what you are going
to use to apply them and whether you need a finish which is rated permanent. The
major development in inks over recent years has been the increasing use of
pigments and acrylic resins. The main difference between dye-based inks and
pigmented acrylic inks are colour intensity and resistance to fading.

 Gouache is one type of water media, paint consisting of pigment, water, a binding
agent and sometimes additional inert material. Gouache is designed to be used
with opaque methods of painting. Gouache has a considerable history going back
over 600 years. It is similar to watercolor because it can be rewet and the paint can
become infused with its paper support. It can also form a superficial layer like acrylic
or oil paint. Also like watercolor, gouache dries to a matte finish. It is similar to
acrylic or oil paints in that it is normally used in an opaque painting style. Many
manufacturers of watercolor paints also produce gouache and the two can easily be
used together.

 Encaustic is a wax based paint which is kept molten on a heated palette. It is applied
to an absorbent surface and then reheated in order to fuse the paint.
 Casein is a milk-product based paint which may be thinned with water. An extremely
versatile medium, caseins may be applied in any manner, from impasto to thin
watercolor washes. They are water soluble, but become insoluble with time and
exposure.

FORMS:

 Mural is any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall, ceiling or other
permanent surface. A distinguishing characteristic of mural painting is that the
architectural elements of the given space are harmoniously incorporated into the
picture.
 Easel is the all-in-one software solution for 3D carving machines. Designed by
Inventables, Easel is the easiest way to get started in the world of 3D carving
 Panel painting is a painting made on a flat panel made of wood, either a single
piece, or a number of pieces joined together. Until canvas became the more popular
support medium in the 16th century, it was the normal form of support for a
painting not on a wall or vellum, which was used for miniatures in illuminated
manuscripts and paintings for the framing.
 Miniature is a small-scale reproduction, or a small version. It may refer to:
Portrait miniature, a miniature portrait painting. Miniature art, miniature painting,
engraving and sculpture. Miniature a small painting in an illuminated text.
 Illuminated manuscript is a manuscript in which the text is supplemented with such
decoration as initials, borders and miniature illustrations.
 Scroll painting usually refers to a painting on a scroll in Asian traditions,
distinguishing between: Hand scroll, such a painting in horizontal format.
Hanging scroll, such a painting in vertical format.
 Screen and fan originated in China and Japan, probably during the 12th century and
screen painting continued as a traditional form into the 20th. They are in ink or
gouache on plain or gilded paper and silk. Their vivid rendering of animals, birds,
and flowers and their atmospheric landscapes brought nature indoors.
 Panorama is any wide-angle view or representation of a physical space, whether
in painting, drawing, photography, film, seismic images or a three-dimensional
model. A panoramic view is also purposed for multi-media, cross-scale applications
to an outline overview along and across repositories.
