SUMMARY OF HELLO LOVE GOODBYE

Joy is an undocumented OFW who works abroad in Hong Kong as a domestic helper.
She risks her life just to provide money for her family back home in the Philippines.
Unfortunately, her employer had to terminate her contract and gave her one more month
until she finds a new job. Her co-OFW invited her to get a job in the bar her friend works at as
well, before her contract is terminated, she decided to take the job at the bar. Before she
knew it, she had caught Ethan's attention, who was known as the playboy bartender at the
bar. Ethan had been pestering her with calls left unanswered the following days. Later on, she
goes to visit her mom, who apparently is living with an abusive Chinese lover but the mother
refuses to leave. Joy disagrees with her mother's choices and pushes the decision of moving to
Canada. She tries her best to sugarcoat the status of her mom as to not hurt her father who
happens to be blind.

One day, she goes to work as usual and meets an old friend, who was living her
dream. She panics as her friend asks about her current life and she hesitated answering but
suddenly, Ethan called her again and as to not embarrass herself in front of her friend, she
pretends to answer the call from her 'boyfriend', saying to meet which left Ethan confused but
went along with the conversation as Joy hurries out, ending the call. After that, she realizes
that she forgot to pick her employer's daughter up from school and there she hurries to get
the child back home. That day, she was scolded by her employer for not being careful, she had
so many negative emotions mixing in her and decided to vent it all out with Ethan at a hotel
that night. But before they could do anything, Joy broke down in tears in front of him and
stormed off, with Ethan following after her.

Ethan went on to comfort Joy by listening to her complaints. Joy then starts to tell
how she wanted be a little bit more selfish and to be free of responsibility but she has no other
choice but to work, for the sake of her family while Ethan sympathizes, Joy then continues to
tell that her goal is to be in Canada and her whole family with her. That night ended with Joy
leaving quickly to her next job and Ethan hoping to see her again. When Ethan got home, he
had received a letter from the US Embassy and it read that his renewal of visa was denied,
leaving a bitter feeling. The next day came and Joy felt better and continued to work in the
day. Later on, she was out doing errands with her friends when suddenly, she had bumped
into Ethan once more. This continued on for days with Ethan's determination to see Joy again
and soon, they had become more and more familiar with each other with each passing day.
There came a time where Joy had been hired at the bar once more and Ethan was happy
about that and so was Joy, but later on, Ethan's brother came by in a drunken state and
started to yell about Ethan’s past mistakes which caused a scene in the bar.

After that incident, Ethan had not been seen in the following days which made Joy.
She soon found out that he had gone back home and so she went to visit him. When she
arrived, Ethan was surprised yet happy to see her so he let her into his home where Ethan and
his brother were taking care of their sick father. There, Ethan began to open up to Joy about
his life, he told her about how he used to be in love with a girl and went with her to the US
which in the end, he was dumped and deported back home to a disappointed father. Ethan
wanted to make things right to prove to his father that he can make up for his mistakes in the
past. He was stuck in Hong Kong for another three years until he's become a resident so he
wanted to tell Joy not to leave yet or he'll be lonely. Joy, however, told him that he can't just
sit there and wait, life doesn't stop there and whilst waiting, he can choose to do whatever he
wanted in the meanwhile. That he can be more. It was a heartfelt moment and there they
found themselves slowly falling for each other.

The day of the Ms. Central 2019 Pageant has come where Joy had decided to
become a participant along with her friends as Ethan and his co-workers watched the event go
on until the special guest of the event had happened to be Ethan's ex-girlfriend, Tanya. Joy had
won first runner up and the event had ended, Tanya had noticed Ethan and invited him out to
dinner, he refused but Joy, obviously low key jealous, pushed Ethan accept the offer. The
following night, Ethan had cleared up the misunderstanding with Tanya and that he had gotten
over her whilst Joy still denying her feelings for him of which Ethan knows that they felt the
same for each other. Pulling Joy into the storage room for a more private talk, they had both
confessed to each other. At this point, there were now a couple, and they gave time for each
other and after and during work.Ethan had decided to open up his own business in hopes of
convincing Joy that life in Hong Kong can be just as good in Canada. His brother wasn’t in favor
of his decision to open a business but Ethan still wanted to proceed with his plan for not only
Joy, but for himself and his family.

On the other end, Joy had gotten her visa for Canada and was excited to finally take
her mother out of Hong Kong, so she called her mother on the phone and the mother was
hesitant to tell where she really was. Joy found out that her mother was in the hospital,
covered in bruises and her Chinese partner in hand. Joy was outraged upon seeing the man
and blamed him for her mother’s injuries, her mother denied that the beating was from him
and told that she wanted to talk to Joy privately. At that day, her mother had become honest
and told the truth as to why she couldn’t leave Hong Kong and the decision of marrying her
Chinese partner was the father’s idea, for the sake of Joy and her siblings.
 Later in the night, she too had a talk with her father about the truth. Saddened by
the revelation, she felt like her goal of having her family altogether in Canada had gone. Ethan
then tells her that this may be a sign that she doesn’t need to leave anymore, that he’ll
provide for her. Joy, flabbergasted at Ethan’s enthusiasm and attempt to persuade her to stay
as everything had been planned for the both of them. She didn’t like the idea as it felt rushed
and she wanted to chase after her dreams. That night, Joy and Ethan weren’t on the same
page as both had wanted different things and ended on that sorrowful note. Ethan’s younger
brother had arrived to Hong Kong and met with joyful tears. There came a time when Joy’s
friend had gone missing and was currently on the search until Ethan had found Joy’s friend
who happened to run away. A short time went by, Joy and Ethan had come to understand
what they both needed and so they’ve come to accept that maybe it is better for them both to
achieve their own dreams first and that one day in the future, they’ll meet again.
