A. DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVE

This course will explore a variety of subjects that will include the learning of biomes,
photosynthesis, identification of organisms, the systems of the human body, functions of animal
and plant cells, and heredity (to name a few). This course will also incorporate hands-on labs as
well as fun and interesting demonstrations. Information learned during the course of this
academic year will not only prepare students for 8th grade science but will also ultimately prepare
them for the Science STAAR in May 2021.

B. COURSE EXPECTATIONS
1. Students will be expected to arrive on time to class, prepared and ready to learn. Please note
that for every 10 tardies accrued within a school day, an absence will be issued.
2. Students will be expected to be respectful of others and of their belongings.
3. Students will be expected to follow directions and work without disturbing others.
4. Students will be expected to have a book available to read in the event that they are done
early with an assignment, unit test or quiz. No drawing or working on other subject
coursework will be permitted.
5. Students will be expected to keep their planner up-do-date. All homework and upcoming due
dates, including upcoming tests, will be entered into this planner. Planners will be checked
periodically throughout the year and a grade may be assessed.

experiences.
2. In the event that a lab is missed, it must be made up within a week of missed lab and
students must make arrangements with the teacher prior to make-up day. The missed lab
can only be conducted after school on a specified pre-determined date. An alternative lab
may be offered.
3. If a student misses a day when classwork or a quiz was administered, it will be his/her
responsibility to obtain missed work and for student to arrange a day to make-up missed
classwork or a quiz after school.
4. Re-takes will NOT be allowed for Unit Tests as a class (except when 30% or more of the

STAAR.
E. MISCELLANEOUS
