navigable by seagoing vessels.
b. Rule 2, Responsibilty
In construing & complying with these rule due regard shall be had to all dangers of
navigation & collision.
c. Rule 3, General Definitions
The term of :
- Power driven vessel (proppeld by machine)
- Sailing vessel (vessel under sail/propelled but not used)
- Fishing vessel
- Not under command vessel (unable to manuvere)
- Restricted to manouvere (nature of her work is restricted in her ability to manouvere.
Veseel laying pipe, cable, dredging, seismic survey, transfer passenger, recover/launch
craft, mine clearance, towing, anchor handling job.

l. Rule 12, Sailing Vessel
1. Day & Night & Fog signal for vessel under way?
= (Two-Side; Two-Top; Stern // Two red light 360,0o // “▬▬” every 2 minutes – 2 sec, ‘M’)
=(Ball // White Bow-Stern mast light 360,0o // “▬” Rapidly ring after signal, ‘R’)
4. Day & Night & Fog signal for vessel aground? = (Three Ball // Two Red light 360, 0o //
6. Day & Night & Fog signal for vessel trawling (seismic)?
7. Day & Night & Fog signal for vessel tow? = (Ball – Diamond – Ball // Diamond //
= (Cylinder // Two-Side; Two-Top; Stern // Three Red light 360,0o // “▬”, ‘D’)
10. Day & Night & Fog signal Vessel restricted in their ability to manoeuvring?
= ( Ball – Diamond – Ball // Red –White - Red light 360,0o // “▬”, ‘D’)
11. Day & Night & Fog signal Vessel engage mine clearance? =( Three ball, Three green light 360,0o
//
Two-Side; Two Top; Stern; Red –White - Red; Two Red 360,0o/ Two Green 360,0o “▬”,‘D’)
13. Day & Night & Fog signal Vessel Not Under command?
b. Safe Water mark (or buoy) – Red and white vertical strips. A single red spherical topmark will
be carried, whenever practicable, by a pillar or spar buoy used as a safe water mark. When lighted
they exhibit a white light. This light can be occulting, isophase, a single long flash, or Morse “A”.
If a long flash (i.e. a flash of not less than 2 seconds) is used, the period of the light will be 10
seconds. As a memory aid, remember a single flash and a single sphere topmark.
c. Special Mark Buoy – Yellow in color. When a topmark is carried it takes the form of a single
yellow X. When a light is exhibited it is yellow. It may show any phase characteristic except those
used for the white lights of cardinal, isolated danger, and safe water marks.
6. MSDS
Marine safety data sheet is a sheet of data following the name of goods with way to handle,
place to store, harmful & caution will affect ETC
8. GM Calculation
a. Calculate all the displacement in MT (fuel, light ship, ship’s store, crew effect, provision,
cargo, other tank).
b. After get the total of Displacement, LCG, VCG..use the displacement figure at hydro
properties table to get LCB, MTC, KMT
c. To get GM = KMT (hydro table)-VCG (total figure)
d. G GO = FS effect (total figure)/Displacements
e. GoM (GM corrected by free surface) =GM-GGo
9. SIMO (standard international marine operational)
