1.0 Design Basis Report

1.1 Structure For Column Formwork


Introduction:
This design basis report is for the design and construction for formwork of Column

Formwork forms part of temporary works. The temporary works should


satisfy static equilibrium at every stage of construction, taking into account dead load,
erection loads and wind loads if any etc .

1.2 Applicable codes: CIRIA report 1985

Roarks Formula for flat plate

1.3 Design Parameter:


Concrete self weight = 25 kN/m3 (2500 kg/m3)
Rate of pour = 2 m/hr
Temperature = 30 ° C

1.5 Material of Construction :


Steel :
Yield stress = 275 Mpa (S275 Grade)
2.0 Design calculation for Concrete Pressure as per CIRIA report

Height of Column = 3.7 m


Rate of pour of concrete R: (rise of concrete) = 2 m/hr
Temperature = 30 ° C

As per CIRIA report

K= Temperature coefficient
C1 = Coefficient dependent on size & shape of formwork

Lateral concrete pressure = 61.69 KN/m2

2.1 Design Calculation for Face Plate :

Roarks formula for flat plate with boundaries fixed at all sides is considered
for designing of skin plate,
Thickness of skin plate, t = 4 mm
Spacing of vertical stiffners, a = 550 mm
Spacing of horizontal stiffners, b = 250 mm
Load on skin plate, q = P = 61.69 KN/m2

Roarks formula Table 11.4 case no. 8a,
