Gold Experience C1 (2nd Edition) - End of Year Test - Speaking
Part 1 (2 minutes)
Part 2 (4 minutes)
In this part of the test, I’m going to give each of you three pictures. I’d like you to talk about two of
them on your own for about a minute, and also to answer a question briefly about your partner’s
pictures.
(Candidate A), it’s your turn first. Here are your pictures. They show important events in people’s
lives.
Thank you.
(Candidate B), which of these events do you think would be most memorable? (Why?)
Thank you. (Can I have the cards, please?) Retrieve Part 2 cards.
Now, (Candidate B), here are your pictures. They show important events in people’s lives.
I’d like you to compare two of the pictures and say what impact these events might have had
on people’s lives and what motivated them to do it.
All right?
(Candidate A), which of these events do you think would be most life-changing?
(Why?)
Thank you. (Can I have the cards, please?) Retrieve Part 2 cards.
Part 3 (4 minutes)
Now, I’d like you to talk about something together for about two minutes.
Here are some different things people spend their money on and a question for you to
discuss. First you have some time to look at the task.
Now, talk to each other about why people choose to spend their money on these things.
Thank you. Now you have about 2 minutes to decide which two would make people the
happiest?
Part 4 (5 minutes)
• Why do you think people spend too much money on material things?
• Some people don’t buy a house or a car because they don’t want to be in debt. What is your
opinion?
• Do you think it’s worth getting into debt for a university degree? Why/Why not?
• Some people say they feel a compulsion to go shopping when they are in need of an
emotional lift or a pat on the back. How would you respond to that?
• How do you think people can be helped towards a more conscious spending?
