Exp-1: DETERMINATION OF COEFFICIENT OF

DISCHARGE OF VENTURIMETER AND
ORIFICEMETER

A. DETERMINATION OF COEFFICIENT OF
DISCHARGE OF VENTURIMETER
AIM:
To determine the coefficient of discharge of VENTURIMETER.

OBSERVATIONS:
π π
1) Area of cross section of the Venturimeter inlet, (a1)= ∗(d 1)2= *(0.025)^2
4 4
=0.0049 m^2
π 2 π
2) Area of cross section of throat in venturimeter area, (a2)= ∗(d 2) = *(0.015)^2
4 4
=0.0017 m^2
3) Area of cross section of the collection tank, (A)= l*b= 0.6*0.6 =0.36 m^2
4) Pressure drop across the venturimeter ,H=( p 1− p 2/ ρg)*98068 m of water
5) Volume of water collected in collecting tank, V= A*h = 0.36*0.1= 0.036 m^3
6) Actual discharge, Qa=(V/t)
7) Theoretical discharge, Qt=¿ m^3/s

8) Coefficient of discharge, Cd=(Qa/Qt)

Cd(avg)= 0.77
