Analyze the information given in the case study and describe and link various concepts,

theories, and models of Organizational Behavior which are applicable to Le Moulin

Blanc Hotel case study.

The case study is about the hotel named Le Moulin Blanc. This case study has been

presented from the point of view of Elizabeth Lapsik who was working at this hotel as an

employee. She joined the hotel as an employee of sales and marketing department. When

she joined the hotel, there were many other employees who joined the hotel at different

posts. Those six employees were hired as receptionists. There was a front office manager,

a chief financial officer, a senior director and his secretary and also housekeepers. Elizabeth

Lapsik observed that there was no Human resource department in the hotel. Thus lack of

leadership at the organization was the main factor which was responsible for its poor

performance. Hotel was ready to inaugurate in the month of June, but the employees of the

company observed that 15th floor of the hotel was not yet ready to be started. There was poor

workman ship at the hotel, due to which various tasks were incomplete. But the process of

registration for the month of June and early July was started. The hotel owner claimed that

the 15th floor of the hotel will be completed in the month of November. Elizabeth Lapsik

observed various wrong things at the hotel. The major issue was the absence of the human

resource department and another biggest amazing fact was that none of the employees had

ever met the owner of the hotel. The hotel tried their best for their marketing but they did not

remain successful in receiving as many guests as they were expecting. Here poor

organizational structure was responsible for the unsuccessful activities of the hotel.

From this entire situation, Elizabeth Lapsik observed that the main reason behind the failure

of the organization in the achievement of its objective is the mismanagement in the

organization. There was poor form of leadership. The hotel was not linked to any catering

services for treatment of the guests. Employees were not being paid salaries on time. All

these factors of poor organizational performance and organizational structure led to failure

of the organization in achievement of its objectives.

2. What was the level of employee satisfaction and motivation in Le Moulin Blanc Hotel?

Also identify the factors responsible for the high/low employee satisfaction and

motivation.

surprising fact was that no employee had ever met the owner of the restaurant.

Employees were not at all satisfied from their salaries. Thus they started looking for

another options. Economic crisis of 2008 was the high time for hotel, when employees

started looking for other jobs. Management of the hotel was continuously doing efforts to

save their money, thus they were continuously cutting the salaries of the employees. They

were not motivated towards the achievement of the objectives of the organization. There

was no source of motivation for the employees to increase their efficiency. Shortage of

employees at the hotel was also resulted into low productivity. The hotel started imposing

fines on each and every activity of employees and increase the shift hours of the

employees but did not increase their salaries. Thus it led to low level of motivation of

employees as well as dissatisfaction from their jobs.

Blanc Hotel which contribute to or detract from organizational performance (i.e.,

organizational efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity)

Organizational efficiency, effectiveness and productivity of the organization were

affected by almost all the departments of the hotel. The major issue was the absence of

the human resource department. Human resource department in every organization is

considered as the head of the organization which is responsible for the smooth working of

all the departments of the organization. The mismanagement in the hotel was the main

consequence of this absence of human resource department. Due to this mismanagement,

overall functioning of the hotel was affected. The employees of the company were not

serious towards their work. They were not motivated towards the achievement of the

objectives of the organization. There was no source of motivation for the employees to

increase their efficiency. Moreover, when the hotel started cutting their salaries, by

imposing irrelevant fines to cover their expenses, they started looking for other options.

Shortage of employees at the hotel was also resulted into low productivity. From this

entire situation, Elizabeth Lapsik observed that the main reason behind the failure of the

organization in the achievement of its objective is the mismanagement in the organization.

There was poor form of leadership. The hotel was not linked to any catering services for

treatment of the guests. Employees were not being paid salaries on time. All these factors

were responsible for the poor organizational performance at Le Moulin Blanc Hotel.

individuals/groups (both employees and management) in Le Moulin Blanc Hotel?

as decision making process, compliance and governance issues, diversity and respectful

workplace. There was poor decision making process at the hotel. There was no human
resource department who could observe the activities of the employees. Thus the

employees of the company were not serious towards their work. But the organization was

expecting a lot from their employees. These high expectations proved overburden for the

employees. This pressure of work also led to frustration among them. All these factors

were the result of poor governance of the hotel. All the employees were trying to impose

their tasks on others. Some sincere employees such as Elizabeth Lapsik observed the

situation and tried to motivate others but remain unsuccessful due to various other

uncontrollable factors.

5. Discuss, using your own experiences/research that how organizational variables (e.g.,

culture, politics, structure, etc.) lead to organizational citizenship, performance, or

dysfunctional behaviors.

There is direct relationship between organizational culture, politics and structure and

organizational citizenship and performance. Every organization is required to make

necessary efforts to judge the variable which have affect on the performance and

functioning of organization. Culture and structure of the organization plays a crucial role

in affecting overall efficiency of the hotel. A strong organizational culture boosts the

motivation of the employees towards the achievement of objectives of organization and

further increases their efficiency. When the employees of the company are satisfied from

their job, it will automatically increase the effectiveness of the organization. Lack of

organizational efficiency and effectiveness were the main factors for the failure of Le

Moulin Blanc Hotel. Managers and higher authorities of the company play an important
