Lesson 1: Suggested Activity/Activities
I. Learning Outcomes
This lesson intends to prepare students to:
1. Appreciate the complexity of the human nature;
2.Interpret the human experience from various perspective;
3. Reflect critically on shared concerns;
4.Take responsibility for knowing and being Filipino;
5. Identify the importance of global media cultures in present situation; and
6. Work effectively in a group.
Lesson 2: Integration
1.Call at least five students to read the third
statement printed on the face of the peso bill they
held in particular: PINAGPALA ANG BAYAN
NA ANG DIOS AY ANG PANGINOON. Get the
individual opinion of these students. At this point,
instruct them to connect their ideas by narrating
their personal experiences during the periods of
lockdown, from ECQ, MECQ, GCQ, MGCQ, and
the New Normal. Tell all of them to focus on
restrictions and limitations on ease of movements
(disiplina). Inform them that their grades will be

measured how they recited and how skillful they
are in expressing thoughts and ideas. Give each of
them at least two (2) minutes to wind up and additional one (1) minute for the lesson learned. Then, ask
them to define what is NEW NORMAL for them.
Lesson 3: Motivation
1. Except to those who recited already (five students) call the attention of all participating students by
asking them to say the word- “present” to test if all of them can follow hundred percent. Ask all of them
to define NEW NORMAL in just one (1) word. At this stage allow some students to commit mistakes to
imbue in them value of advocating the law on Anti-Discrimination and discover in them value of self-
confidence. Our foremost strategy in this modality is to
develop attributes of self-discovery and self-assessment
in one discussion or meeting through one set-up of video
conferencing. Deliverables at this point should be
measured in terms of effectiveness. The only indicator
available is the quality of answers each student has
given. Unlike in face to face, a teacher can already feel if
a student has been touched because it will show the
impact it has created emotionally, intellectually and
physically. Outright, positive effects will be visible at
sites.psu.edu/global/2015/02/15/social-learning-in-the-global-media-community/ hand in their behaviors. It is therefore quite challenging
if this so called “blended modality” will deliver this very
important ingredient of teaching-learning process. As safeguard, the author suggests “proximity test”. All
answers should be subjected right away to this coined test, meaning: all information given in order to
become effective must be relevant and timely. The teacher should likewise, possessed ready or instant wit
to assess its weight, essence and substance. Please avoid criticizing students’ responses, thus, convenience
will be felt. As mentioned earlier, self- discovery and self-assessment will help students to find self-
comfort which will eventually led them to become more confident. Just help them individually analyze
concepts, sort out ideas, discern which is best for them, and intelligently apply the same. Sometimes, even
failures are translated as the most important part of learning. The best way to develop them holistically
into becoming critical thinkers is to let them feel and value that in the end they are truly the ones
accountable for their actions which later on teach them to become productive citizens of the Philippines.
Lesson 4: Presentation
1. In the convenience of their respective homes, ask them what gadgets they are using. This discussion
should be focus on how important is internet access in this globalized world. Allow them to realize that
because of international connectivity, it seems that we- human beings are living in a borderless world.
Geographical distances have been solved through advent of modern communications and information
technology. Barriers and walls have been eliminated. Unlike the used of snail mail in the past, internet
access provides a virtual world where one can talk in person, audibly heard of, and can express emotions
freely.

Cultural Imperialism
Cultural Imperialism is a process by which one country dominates other countries’ media consumption
and consequently dominates their values and ideologies. Consider the number of television programs and
films produced in the USA that are shown throughout the world. Conversely, cultural imperialism is the
domination of one culture over another.
The media also constitute a potential tool for control by dominant Western culture over those of
developing countries like the Philippines. The Western way of life and its economic and political systems
can be imposed on other societies as its lifestyles are sold through media products such as films and
television. Hollywood is a good example of cultural imperialism to the extent that even developed
countries like France and the United Kingdom go to great lengths to ensure their own film industries
remain strong. Today, as a global economic and political power, the United States is inevitably intruding
into the cultures of other countries of the world. Some believe that the Americans spread of culture is
beneficial to the entire planet, while other consider this cultural imperialism a threat.
Cultural Hybridization
Some people may agree in this statement- hybridize bred Filipinos are seen to be adaptable. Popular
names like: Brandon Vera, Apple de App, Rev. Fr. Leo Patalinghug and Catriona Gray could attest to it.
Cultural hybridize is very much linked to the globalization process, which is the spread of western ideas
and culture. It can be hard to disentangle cultures and it is often the case that it is more than two cultures
that combine to produce the new form of culture. Cultural hybridization is the blending of elements from
different cultures. Without it, the world we live today would not be anywhere near as interesting and
integrated as it today. An example of cultural hybridize is creolization. According to Hannerz, the term
creolization is used to refer to forms of culture that do not have historical roots, but are the result of global
interconnections. It is a useful way of thinking about hybridize, how different types of culture which exist
simultaneously and overlap, leading to new form of culture. Creole people today find it difficult to point
out where their ancestors are from. Therefore, being creole meant to be uprooted and to belong to a new
world in contrast to a world that is old, deep and rooted. The term creolization has subsequently been
applied to food, architecture, music and language.
While some people finds it funny or perhaps scary that American fast food restaurant and clothing brands
are just about anywhere in this world, cultural globalization is by no means a one- way street. Cultural
globalization involves the spread of language, the art, food, business, ideas, technology etc.
In the United States, they adapted lots of great things from other cultures and traditions, including lots of
foreign cuisine like Chinese, Thai, and Mexican food. In Europe, music from various European countries,
will, despite different languages be heard in clubs and restaurants. Business leaders from all around the
world gather in China, Japan, USA, and UK to exchange ideas about the direction of their particular field,
business culture and technology. Cultures around the world have also exchanged words or phrases “OK”
or the thumbs up is now used all over the world.
