Guidelines for Textile Clothing and Fashion SBA 1

The Textiles Clothing and Fashion School Based Assessment (SBA)1 requires students to make a product
to be displayed at a Trade Show. The Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) standards are designed
for industry and for this task Apply Quality Standards to Work (ATAGAR0032A) in the CVQ
Garment Production Level 1 (CCATA10105) is used to assess that the student can complete a product
that meets industry standards.

Please note the following:

● SBA 1 is assessed internally by the teacher

● Students should develop a thorough understanding of how to assess their own work, assess
quality of received component parts, measure parts of products, record information on production
and investigate causes of deviations from specified quality standards.
● Incomplete products are not acceptable in the industry.
● Careful planning and appropriate procedures will enable students to complete the product within
the specified time.
● Competency is demonstrated by the performance of all stated criteria according to the range of
variables.
● Evidence should be gathered attesting to the achievement of competence of the student to the
standard required by each element and unit of competency.
● To ensure consistency of student performance, evidence should be collected over a set period.
● Evidence is best gathered using products, processes and procedures

All students doing SBA 1 are expected to:

1. Interpret work instructions, standards and specifications appropriate to own work.

2. Prepare Natural Dye in previous class/classes
3. Create unique fabric designs suitable to be used by the local garment manufacturer.
4. Take picture and collect evidence of carrying out the processes for the product
5. Check and measure the relevant quality parameters such as finish and colour
6. Quality checks such as visual inspection, physical measurements and checks against pattern,
templates and guides
7. Apply finishing operations to the product.
8. Work systematically with attention to details without damage to goods, equipment or personnel.
