Cover A makes more symbolic use of colour and images, allowing for more interpretation by the
viewer. The use of two principal colours highlights the feud between the two families. The use of
coffins emphasises that the play will be filled with death, but the coffins also form a love heart,
representing the love between the two protagonists. This is made more clear by how the two
colours meld where the coffins overlap, hinting that it may have been possible for the families to
overcome their animosity.
COVER B
Cover B makes more exciting use of colour and images to stimulate the imagination of the viewer,
eliciting a more powerful emotional response. The use of text also helps to highlight the themes of
the play – ‘hope’, ‘despair’, ‘tragedy’, and ‘love’.
