Field strength check shall be carried out using a Burmah Castrol Strip prior to commencement
of each working shift. Three lines should be clearly visible to indicate satisfactory field strength
Pre-inspection cleaning by mechanical brushes and mechanical buff followed by application
of pre- cleaner Chemetall S-72, S-76, S-85 if required.
White contrast paint will be evenly sprayed onto the area of inspection.
The flow of magnetizing current should then be initiated on the part prior to the application of
wet magnetic particle ink.
The magnetic field will be applied by utilizing a Y6 AC yoke.
The magnetic field is terminated only after the application of magnetic ink and interpretation is
completed.
Repeat the examination in the same area by placing the yoke at 90˚ to the initial examination
position.
13. ILLUMINATION
Background light or artificial white light (torchlight for shaded/darkened areas) intensity shall be
minimum 100 fc (1076 Lx). The light intensity shall be checked with calibrated light meter and
require to be demonstrated when artificial light is applied, documented and maintained on file.
