Detailed Lesson Plan

in
Mathematics

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
A. state the theorems on a Special Right Triangle;
B. solve problems in real life situations involving special right triangle and;
C. actively participate in the class discussion
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic: Application of special right triangle in real life problems
B. Mathematics Learner’s Material
C. Materials: Visual Aids, chalk
III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Motivation
Last meeting, we discussed about the theorems on
special right triangle, right?

Yes ma’am.
So, who can state the theorems on special right
triangle?

45-45-90 Theorem
- Each leg is times the hypotenuse.
- The hypotenuse is √ 2 times each leg

Very good!
Let’s have a review. Find the missing side of each
triangle:
1.

a=2 c=?
c =a√ 2
c= 2√ 2
450

2.
h
s =2 l =s √ 3
x=? c =8
8
y =2 l =4 √3

y =4

y=?

B. Presentation
So today, let’s discuss more about the special
right triangle dealing with real life situation and
this is what we call the “Application of Special
Right Triangle.

C. Discussion
Before we are going to solve some problems, there STEPS TO SOLVE PROBLEMS:
are steps or tips we should follow in order to solve
the problems easier 1. Read and understand the problem carefully.
2. Identify if the problems are 45-45-90 or 30-
60-90
3. Illustrate the problems
4. Solve for the unknown.
5. Verify your answer and don’t forget to put
the corresponding unit.

Okay, let’s have an example!

1. You are creating quilting blocks out of square. If

a block has a diagonal of 11cm, how long is each
side?

√2
1. s = 2 (11)
2. A 16 foot ladder is leaning against a house. If
the ladder makes an angle of 30 with the ground, √2
x=? 11cm x=11 cm
how far up the house does the ladder reach? How 2
far from the house is the base of the ladder?
3. Mark is flying a kite whose string is making a 45
angle with the ground. The kite string is 67 m long.
How far is the kite above the ground?
8
2. y =2

x 6 x=8
1 x=8√ 3 feet
y

√2
x=67 m
2
3. 67m x

Did you understand class?

Yes ma’am.

D. Generalization
What are the theorem of special right triangle again
class?

Ma’am the 45-45-90 right triangle and the 30-

60-90 right triangle, where in 45-45-90 the
two legs are equal and in 30-60-90 the one leg
is shorter than the other one.

Very good.
What are the step in solving problems?

STEPS TO SOLVE PROBLEMS:

1. Read and understand the problem carefully.
2. Identify if the problems are 45-45-90 or 30-
60-90
3. Illustrate the problems
4. Solve for the unknown.
5. Verify your answer and don’t forget to put
the corresponding unit.

Very good.
E. Application
Directions: Solve the following on your notebook

1. A 10 meter long ladder leans against a

building. If the ladder makes an angle with 60 with
the ground, how far uo the wall does the ladder
reach? How far from he wall is the base of the
ladder?
2. A bamboo pole is leaning against a tree, if the
height of the tree is 16m and the angle made by the
pole tot he ground is 60. What is the length of the
pole? How far from the tree is the base of the
bamboo pole?
3. A 6m long painters ladder is leaning against a
wall. If the top of the ladder makes an angle of 45
eitht he wall, how far is the foot of the ladder from
the wall?

IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Solve the following. Show your complete solution.

1. A ladder 12m long rest against a vertical wall. If the foot of the ladder makes and angle of 30
with the ground. How far is the foot of the ladder from the building? How high is the building?
2. A 14m long ladder is leaning against a second story building. If the top of the ladder makes an
angle of 45 with the second story building. How far is the foot of the ladder against from the
building?
3. A pole is leaning against a tree. If the height of the tree is 20m and the angle made by the pole
to the ground is 60. What is the length of the pole? How far from the tree is the base of the pole?
You would like to put tassel around a square table cloth. If its diagonal measures 8 feet, what is
the length of the tassel you need to buy
V. Assignment
1. Due to bad weather, the pilot has to alter his flight 30. The plane will land at airport B instead,
which is 46 miles west of Airport A. How far will the plane have to travel to reach its new
destination?
2. Read on Trigonometric Ratios of Specific Angles.
