CHAPTER 6 – WORK AND ENERGY

APPLICATION OF WORK-ENERGY METHOD: CONSTANT FORCES (Pinzon, Mil Ivan D.)

Problem:
If the motor exerts a constant force of 300N on the cable, determine the speed of 20 kg crate when it
travels s = 10m up the plane, starting from rest. The coefficient of friction between the crate and the plane is µ =
0.3

Given:

T= 300N

µ = 0.3

w = 20kg = 196.20N

Solution:

∑ 𝐹𝑣 = 0

𝑁 − 196.20𝑁 𝑐𝑜𝑠 300 = 0

𝑁 = 169.91𝑁

𝐹 = 169.91(0.3)

𝐹 = 50.973𝑁

From :

APPLICATION OF WORK-ENERGY METHOD: CONSTANT FORCES (Pineda, Nikko S.)
Problem:
A constant 500-N acts on a wagon during only the first 3 m of its motion starting from rest. If the
coefficient of friction is 0.15 , find the velocity of the wagon after it has moved a total distance of 5 m.

Solution:
Fv = 0
N1 = 400-500sin30 = 150 N
F = N
F1 = 150 (0.15)
F1 = 22.5 N
N2 = 400 N
F = N
F2 = 400 (0.15)
F2 = 60 N

APPLICATION OF WORK-ENERGY METHOD: CONSTANT FORCES (Rosales, Hannah Nicole J.)
Problem:
A constant force P=850 N acts on the body shown during only the first 8 m of its motion starting from
rest. If μ= 0.20, find the velocity of the body after it has moved a total distance of 12 m.\

Solution:

𝑁1 = 2000N – 850( ) = 1398.96 N
4√2

𝐹1 = 0.20(1398.96) = 279.72N
𝑁2 = 2000N
