LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS GRADE 2
FOURTH QUARTER/Week 3

I. Objectives
A. Content Standard: the learner demonstrates understanding of time standard measures of length , mass
and capacity and area using square-tile units
B. Performance Standards: the learner is able to apply knowledge of time, standard measures of length ,
weight and capacity, and area using square –tile units in mathematical problems and real life situations
C. Learning Competencies: Compares Mass in Grams or Kilograms M2ME-IVd-29
D. Integration: Values; MAPEH-Health, ENGLISH
E. Strategies: Group work, Games, Differentiated Instruction
II. Content: Comparing Mass in Grams or Kilograms
III. Learning References:
A. References
1. Curriculum Guide
2. Teacher’s Guide: 452-454
3. Learner’s Material: 359-360
4. Textbook Pages
5. Additional Resources from Learning Resources ( LR ) Portal
B. Other Learning Resources: Activity sheet, weighing scale
IV. Procedures:
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill
Say: Show cut-out of food items.
When I show an object, measured by gram, clap your hands once, if an object measured by kilogram,
clap your hands twice.
2. Review
Show picture cards as shown below. Let us compare the objects being weight.

Ask: Which vegetables are heavier? Which vegetables are less?

3. Motivation
Sing the” Fruit Salad Song “ in own dialect version.
Emphasize among the pupils the importance of fruits and vegetables to one’s health.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Present the word story.
Si Akira kag Fatima nagbakal sang prutas sa tindahan. Nagbakal si Akira sang 500 grams ( g ) nga apple kag si
Fatima nagbakal sang 3 kilogram ( kg ) nga strawberry

Say: the apples weigh 500 grams ( g ) while the strawberry weigh 3 kilograms ( kg ).
Ask: Which are heavier? Apple or strawberry ? Why?
Present to the class examples of mass nouns and count nouns.
Let the pupils arrange each set from lightest to heaviest vice versa.

2. Performing the Activity ( Differentiated Instruction )

Group 1:
Identify each picture whether it is a mass noun or a count noun.
Compare the object in each set . Check the one that is heavy, cross out the one that is light.

Group 2:
Look at the picture. Tell whether it is a mass noun or a count noun and compare the fruits
and vegetables in each set. .Circle the one that is heavy and box the one that is light.

Group 3.
Compare. Write
the symbols. > < =
1. 200 g _____ 100 g
2. 1000g _____ 2 kg
3. 5 kg _____ 6 kg
4. 50 kg _____ 2000g
5. 6 kg _____ 6000g

3.Processing the Activity

Remind the children that the abbreviation for gram is g and the abbreviation for kilogram is kg.
Say: In measuring and comparing different masses of objects we use the key term such as greater
than ( > ), less than ( < ) or equal ( =)

4. Reinforcing the Concept and Skills

Let the pupils compare using <, >, or = .

5. Summarizing the Lesson

Ask: How do we compare the weight in grams and kilograms?
6. Applying to New and Other Situation
Nicole helped her mother sell vegetable in the market. They sold 10 kg of eggplant in the morning.
How many grams of vegetable did they sell? How did Emily helped her mother? What trait did she
show? Do you also help your mother?

C. Assessment:
Ikumparar kag isulat ang simbolo nga < > =.
1. 600g _____ 500g 5. 5000g _____ 5kg
2. 2000g _____ 1000g 6. 12g _____ 12kg
3. 10kg _____ 25kg 7. 500g _____ 1 kg
4. 100g _____ 4kg 8. 4000g _____ 2kg

D. Home Activity
Buluhaton sa Balay
1. 4 kg > _____ ( 2kg , 10kg, 8 kg )
