Please answer the following questions clearly! Mind your language as it is considered in
determining your score as well. Try to give your own words in delivering your ideas toward the
questions below!

1) Please explain the following statements:

a. The aim of the ESP is to determine the needs of a specific group of learners.

b. ESP is often divided into English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English for
Occupational Purposes (EOP).

c. Designing a couse is fundamentally a matter of asking questions in order to provide a


reasoned basis for the subsequent processes of syllabus design, material writing,
classroom teaching and evaluation.

2) Please restate again what you have done on your individual assignment dealing with Course
Description in the form of paragraph. The several basic questions on your book page 21-22
like: Why does the the student need to learn? Who is going to be involved in the process?
Where is the learning to take place? What potential does the place provide? What
limitations does it impose? When is the learning to take place? How much time is available?
How will it be distributed? What does the student need to learn? What aspects of language
will be needed and how will they be described? What level of proficiency must be achieved?
What topic areas will need to be covered? How will the learning be achieved? What
learning theory will underlie the course? What kind of methodology will be employed? can
be a guideline for you to make course description in the form of paragraph.

Course Name : English for Economics

The English for Economics Course aims to provide the students of Economic and Business
Faculty at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University with sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge
in terms of comprehending textbooks and journals written in English and to introduce the
students with English structures and patterns. In this course, the students are exposed to a variety
of texts on economic matters and grammatical structures. Reading exercises are focused on the
content of the texts which specifically deals with the major of the students, i.e. economic field
through integrated skill tasks, while language exercises comprise vocabulary and grammar
works. The materials in this book are divided into three units; each of them consists of three up
to four texts. Then, each of the texts consists of items such as comprehension questions,
integrated skill tasks, vocabulary tasks, grammar reviews, and grammar tasks. Therefore, the
laguage aspects used in this course include listening skills, speaking skills, reading skills, writing
skills, and at least supported by the ability.of basic language components which include lessons
on grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation by inviting students to actively practice their English
skills both individually and in discussion groups in class and/or outside class. As for this English
learning activity, students will gradually be introduced to: Basic Concepts of English, The
Importance of Mastering English, Strategies in Mastering English, How to Master Special
English Vocabulary for Economics (Finance and Banking), as well as other related materials. In
the learning process in the classroom, students will be introduced to and develop the method of
discussion and problem solving. It is expected that the students will get used to expressing their
ideas that are interrelated in question and answer and have critical thinking skills. The students
are also strongly encouraged to use English both when discussing and being tasked with
presenting the results of their discussions in presentation activities in front of the class or when
they make written assignments, such as paper assignments for presentations and so on. At the
end of each meeting, students are required to reflect on the material that has just been discussed.
