Indications
Vasopressin is indicated for prevention and treatment of postoperative abdominal distention, in abdominal
roentgenography to dispel interfering gas shadows, and in diabetes insipidus.

Contraindication
Hypersensitivity; multiple dose vial (10 mL) is contraindicated in patients with known allergy or
hypersensitivity to 8-L-arginine vasopressin or chlorobutanol; the 1 mL single dose vial does not contain
chlorobutanol; contraindicated only in patients with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to 8-L-arginine
vasopressin

Side effects

Common side effects of Vasopressin include:

 fast or slow heartbeats;  dizziness, spinning sensation;


 low sodium level;  pale skin, numbness in your fingers or
 numbness or tingling; toes;
 pounding in your head or ears;  stomach pain, gas, nausea, vomiting; or
 sweating.

Nursing Consideration
Monitor vital signs, especially blood pressure, hourly during intravenous infusion. Monitor urine output
and specific gravity. Assess patient closely for signs of chest discomfort or TIA. Look for signs of life-

Dosage
The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. The dose of this medicine

the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.

Indication
Fentanyl is indicated for analgesic action of short duration during the anesthetic periods, premedication,
induction and maintenance, and in the immediate postoperative period (recovery room) as the need arises.

Special Precaution

Before using fentanyl, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to adhesives; or if you
have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic
reactions or other problems.

Nursing Consideration

Assess IV site closely for signs of extravasation. Assess for signs of adverse reactions. Continuous
cardiorespiratory and blood pressure monitoring. Monitor respiratory status carefully.

Oral concentrate (5 mg/mL); oral solution (5 mg/5 mL); oral tablet (10 mg; 2 mg; 5 mg)

Frequency

It is usually taken 1 to 4 times a day and may be taken with or without food.

Indication

Diazepam is indicated for anxiety disorders, short-term relief of anxiety symptoms, spasticity associated
with upper motor neuron disorders, adjunct therapy for muscle spasms, preoperative anxiety relief,
management of certain refractory epilepsy patients

Contraindication

 Documented hypersensitivity
 Acute alcohol intoxication
 Myasthenia gravis (allowable in limited circumstances)
 Acute narrow-angle glaucoma and open-angle glaucoma unless patients receiving appropriate
therapy
 Severe respiratory depression
 Intravenous (IV) use in shock, coma, depressed respiration, patients who recently received other
respiratory depressants
 Sleep apnea

Precaution

Diazepam can slow or stop your breathing, especially if you have recently used an opioid medication,
alcohol, or other drugs that can slow your breathing. You should not use this medicine if you are allergic
to diazepam or similar medicines (Klonopin>, Xanax, and others), or if you have myasthenia gravis,
severe liver disease, narrow-angle glaucoma, a severe breathing problem, or sleep apnea.

Nursing Consideration

Assess blood pressure, pulse and respiration if IV administration. - Provide frequent sips of water for dry
mouth. - Provide fluids and fibre for constipation. - Evaluate therapeutic response, mental state and
physical dependency after long-term use.
