Safety information and use
DANGER!
Explosion hazard!
– When measuring oxidisable substances, e.g. metal,
organic material, wood, coal, plastics etc. there is a
risk of spontaneous combustion (dust explosion) if
the proportion of fine particles exceeds a certain
percentage. Therefore special safety measures (e.g.
measurement in suspension) must be taken and
the work must be supervised by a specialist.
– The device is not explosion-protected and is not
suitable for measuring explosive, flammable or oxi-
dising substances.
– The device must not be used in electrically conduc-
tive, dusty or damp environments.
– Do not use highly flammable and flammable liquids
such as alcohols, ketones and benzines etc.
DANGER!
Mains voltage
– Do not allow any liquids to run inside the device.
WARNING!
The maximum accepted concentration (MAC) levels of
the valid safety regulations must be observed. If neces-
sary, ventilation must be provided or the machine must
be operated under an extractor hood.

Safety information and use
WARNING!
Laser radiation!
Laser devices of laser class 3B and 4 are dangerous for
the human eye, so that even an exposure time of 0.25
sec is sufficient to cause permanent damage to the
retina. Therefore it is mandatory for every person who
is operating the device with the housing open during
repairs or maintenance to wear suitable safety goggles.
The safety goggles must be suitable for the wavelength
of the laser being used.
WARNING!
Laser radiation!
– Never look directly into the laser beam.
– Always avoid placing any reflective objects in the
laser beam.
– Wear suitable safety goggles during maintenance
and adjustment work on the open laser emitter. (<
10 mW, 532 nm).

4 Initial start-up
In order to be able to work with the ANALYSETTE 22
NeXT, make sure that the measuring unit, the dispersion
unit, and the ultrasonic box are connected properly, and
the MaS control software is installed. After this, switch
on the measuring unit first and then the MaS control
software is started!

4. Close the hoses as can be seen in the image to the wet dispersion
unit and optionally to the ultrasonic box. On the left side you see
the hose connection without ultrasonic box; right with US box. The
hoses are connected to the measuring cell by standard. See
Ä Chapter 9.1 ‘Replacing hoses in wet dispersion units’
on page 49.
5. You can connect an external boost pump to the "External Pump"
connection (3). This is required if you want to feed water as a
measuring liquid from a separate canister to the dispersion unit.
For this, you have to use the immersion pump set which is avail-
able as an accessory. See Ä Chapter 7.2 ‘Immersion pump set’
on page 37.
- 24 -
Initial start-up
1. Insert the supplied USB stick into the USB port provided for this
purpose!
2. Select the USB stick and run the "CD_Start" application on it!
3. An installation menu opens.
4. Select the [NeXT Nano / Micro].
5. Then select the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the USB driver appro-
priate for your PC system. If you do not have this information, con-
sult your IT administrator.
6. Once the USB driver is installed, start the installation of the MaS-
control software. To do this, click the [Install MaScontrol] button.
- 25 -

8. The setup assistant for the installation opens. Click [Next] to con-
tinue.
9. Read through the terms of the licence and accept them by acti-
vating the checkbox at the bottom left. The installation can then be
continued by clicking [Next].
10. Enter the path for installing the software. Click [Next] to continue
the installation.
11. In the next steps you can create various links and an entry in the

CAUTION!
When using the liquids listed below make sure that
these are used in a well-ventilated room or under an
extractor hood.
- 28 -
Supply units
The measuring liquid in the supply unit only comes in contact with mate-
rials that are chemically resistant to a large extent. Certain organic liquids
or saturated inorganic salt solutions can be used temporarily without
damaging the instrument.
Please note that the measuring liquid comes into contact with stainless
steel, glass, PTFE, Viton (FPM or FKM) and silicon hoses.
When measuring samples which are incompatible with water, a suitable
liquid with a high boiling point can be selected from the following list:
n Monovalent, bivalent or trivalent alcohols e.g. isopropanol
n Benzines (e.g. white spirit),
n Mineral and organic oils (e.g. petroleum and soy bean oil, nut oil,
olive oil, Miglyol)
n Saturated solutions of inorganic salts
Samples, which are available in oil (e.g. oils like machine oil), do not
always need to be measured in oil. They can often be measured in white
spirit.
DANGER!
Before using other measuring liquids, consult Fritsch
Gmbh in advance or call up the list of suitable chemi-
cals on our homepage www.fritsch-sizing.de under the
corresponding wet dispersion unit.
We advise against the use of harmful, explosive or flam-
mable liquids.
The above list just states the chemical compatibility of
the device with the liquids that can be used.
The measuring unit and dispersion units are not
designed to be explosion-protected.
DANGER!
The following must not be used:
Ketones (e.g. acetone, propanone, butanone, cyclohex-
anone),
Ether, chlorofluorocarbons,
Amines, freone 21-32, methanol, aniline, benzol
Chlorinated hydrocarbons like acetic acid and its deriva-
tives, undiluted acids and bases.
DANGER!
When using harmful liquids be sure to observe the valid
safety regulations (MAC values). Where necessary, the
measuring unit and dispersion units must be set up in a
ventilated safety area.

NOTICE!
The fluid inlet must be opened before working with the
device!
In order to fill the measuring circuit of the wet dispersion unit, proceed
as follows:
1. Check whether the hose at the "Liquid in" connection is connected
to your water connection or a liquid storage container.
2. Open the tap of the water connection or the storage container.
3. Start the MaS control software.
4. Create a new root folder or select an already existing one, in order
to open a folder or create a new one.

Measure the supplied Fritsch test powder F500 with the wet dispersion
unit as follows:
1. Switch the measuring unit on the main switch to I (On). If you are
using an ultrasonic box, switch it on as well by the main switch.
2. Open the liquid inlet.
3. Start the MaScontrol software.
4. Create a new root folder.

Explosion hazard, combustible substances
– Do not use highly flammable and flammable liquids
such as alcohols, ketones and benzines etc. or any
chemicals, which contain or could break down into
chloride ions (some disinfectants, household deter-
gents and washing-up liquids), in the dispersion
unit. See Ä Chapter 5.1.2 ‘Selecting the liquids’
on page 28.

8.1 Cleaning the devices
DANGER!
Mains voltage!
– Before beginning with cleaning work, disconnect
the mains plug and protect the device against being
unintentionally switched back on!
– Do not allow any liquids to flow into the device.
– Indicate cleaning work with warning signs.
– Put safety equipment back into operation after
cleaning work.

Cleaning
NOTICE!
The anti-reflective coating is very soft. Cleaning with
standard solvent-free cleaning agents can cause
scratches.
Therefore only use lens cleaning paper from the acces-
sory case.
The following cleaning method for the measuring cell glasses has proven
successful:
1. Clean the glasses with a spray bottle, filled with alcohol, until no
more major soiling is visible. Then place optics tissue on the inside
of the glass and moisten it with alcohol so that the paper clings to
the glass surface.
2. Now to "wipe" the surface, just pull the tissue off parallel to the
surface, without pressing the tissue onto the glass.
3. You may have to repeat this wiping of the glass surface with fresh
tissue, until you can see no more soiling.
4. Then rinse the measuring cell glasses clean with the spray bottle
and dab them carefully with the dry optics tissue.
