1. Why do people communicate?
-People communicate to express their thoughts and ideas
2. What might happen to the world if communication does not exist?
-Without communication one would function solely as an individual, because communication is
needed in order for interaction between people. Everything would be done extremely
inefficiently, because of the lack of sharing of thoughts.
3. Why do miscommunication and misunderstanding happen?

Because of the large distance between the transmitter and the receiver, miscommunications
occur. When you send a message, it goes through a number of steps before reaching its
intended recipient, and the original meaning is lost.

channel(s) do you find most effective? Why?
-The personnel of our university connected with me is our subject teachers and the channel we
use to communicate are mobile phone and laptops/desktop. It is the most effective way to us to
communicate as of our situation right now.

2. Through a slogan, state how the knowledge of the communication process aids people in
communicating effectively.
A communication aid aids a person's ability to communicate more successfully with others. AAC
devices are another name for communication aids. Gestures, signing, symbols, word boards,
communication boards, and books, as well as Voice Output Communication Aids, are examples
of these

For me it contributes a lot, the best thing it contributes is the exchanging of news from different
countries through online surfing or internet. Because of these we are all aware of how and where
did this pandemic starts and how to prevent it.

Effective communication is essential in today's globalized environment. In a global setting,
communication is crucial. The initial stage in developing good communications is to understand
your audience and the things that they are interested in, so that you can easily gain their trust.
ASSESSMENT / ENRICHMENT

Activity 1

1. Kindly watch the video “Wiring a Web for Global Good” by TED Global (see reference for the link),
then, study the speech. In a form of a reaction paper, answer the following questions:
a. What global issues have emerged because of miscommunication?
The failure to communicate adequately is one of the reason why global issues have emerged. Some
examples are poverty, climate change, economy and security. One of the major challenges in our
time is climate change. All of those shifting weathers that ruins the food production that is one of the
reason for poverty, the rising of sea levels that increase the risk of flooding and the scope of such
impacts of climate change do not just affect a certain community but affects globally. The conflict
between countries that causes war is also one of the global issues that had emerged long ago.
Those wars that ruined infrastructures and the peaceful life that the people would have lived. All
effects would have been prevented if all the countries involved could have communicate well.
Security and peace that could have been achieved if there would be a good communication
happening between countries. All of these global issues could have been prevented if only there
were a good communication. A communication that would benefit the majority and will result to a
better global society

b. How can effective communication and language use contribute to the creation of a
truly global society?
People all across the world are urged to exercise their civic duty and to become more aware of the
world's true problems through good communication and language. Even though we don't meet or see
each other in one area, we can still make a difference and deal with it as one and as global people
by using modern communication. It's all about the nature of using digital technology for good, to
increase its successful application that will connect the world, and together we will tackle the world's
current difficulties.

-for me the most difficult adjustment staying in the Philippines is the time, Filipinos are
known to their culture “FILIPINO TIME”. Most of them didn’t follow the exact time given,
they really like to be late, also me.
g. Have you ever experienced difficulty in transacting or communicating in English with
Filipinos? If yes, tell your group about the experience.

common nature, but our various

habits and custom
doesn‘t always keep us apart. In
today‘s era, we encounter people
with diverse cultural
backgrounds. Such interactions occur in
social, educational, political, and
commercial settings. We
were able to communicate and
socialize with everyone, acquiring
varied intellectuals for us to be
better. The diverse customs and beliefs
of every individual tend us to interact
and socialize. This
makes our world fascinating.

settings helped me realize
that This lesson on local and global communication in multicultural settings helped me
realize that for us to live harmoniously despite our differences in culture, intercultural
competence is essential. We should recognize the validity and differences of
communication styles among people. We also should learn to eliminate personal biases
and prejudices and strive to acquire communication skills necessary in a multicultural world.

morning, good afternoon ma‘am‖ I greet my school dean ―Good morning, good
afternoon ma‘am‖
- Do your ways of greeting these people vary?
- Yes, it does vary. I formally greet the elderly (my mother, teacher, and school
dean), and I informally greet my best friends. My greetings depend on the respect I
gave and age preference.
ASSESSMENT / ENRICHMENT
Activity 1. Answer the following questions:
1. In what situations are the local and global varieties of spoken language used?
- In global varieties of spoken language, English is a widely spoken language in the world. It is
applied to international editions of newspapers and magazines and international research
journal articles. Also may occur in the interaction between people coming from different parts of
the world discussing in a paper presentation sessions in an international academic
conference. While in local varieties of spoken language, National language or dialects are
used. The local varieties apply when communicating among neighbors every day. It also
includes instances of local usage found in the neighborhood poster, publication and website of
local societies.
2. What registers are appropriate to such situations?
- In global communication, such as an international conference, an Academic register or
Formal register is appropriate. On the contrary, local communication such as chatting with
a neighbor every day, Every day register, or Informal register is applicable.
Activity 3
Journal Writing: Why is it important to use appropriate varieties and registers of language in
certain communication contexts?
- Language varies from a different location, from one culture to another, and from one situation to
another. We use different varieties and registers of language to suit different communication
contexts. In writing, we need to use specialized features of words to convey the message.
The reader and the receiver will be responsible for how they will going to interpret the message.
However, this is not possible when it comes to speaking. The receiver can easily understand the
message through the speaker‘s level of voice, facial expression, and body language. Therefore,
varieties and registers of language are about appropriateness and context in speaking and
grammatical correctness of words in writing.
