Date and Length April 4, 2022
of lesson 45 – 60 minutes

Stage 1 – Desired Results

Learner Outcomes to be taught in this lesson:
What relevant goals (Learning Outcomes from the Programs of Study) will this lesson plan address?
General Outcome: Use direct and indirect measurement to solve problems
- Specific Outcome 1: Demonstrate an understanding of measurement as a process of comparing
by:
1. Identifying attributes that can be compared
2. Ordering objects
3. Making statements of comparison
[C, CN, PS, R, V]

Knowledge Objectives Skill Objectives

Students will know…… Students will be skilled at
1. How to identify attributes that can be 1. Identifying attributes that can be compared
compared 2. Ordering objects
2. How to order objects 3. Making statements of comparison
3. How to make statements of comparison

Stage 2 – Assessment Evidence

Formative Assessments - What evidence will you collect that will tell you that the students have
learned?

 The measure hunt activity will be the main evidence that the students will be assessed. Students are
expected to use vocabulary such as shorter, taller, or about (the same as) when they are tasked to
find objects that fall of in one of those categories in comparison to the object that was presented to
them by the teacher.
Stage 3 – Learning Plan
Instruction and Key Learning Activities

Introduction: 5 minutes
- The teacher will present a question of what the class had been learning from the past week.
- Recall on vocabulary that were introduced to them
1. Length
2. Long, longer, longest
3. Tall, taller, tallest
- Recall on the tools that were used to measure certain objects.
1. Cards
2. Blocks
- The teacher will also ask, when we measure an object, why is it that there are more blacks used
compared to the number of cards used?

Teacher Actions: 5 minutes

- After the introduction, the teacher will present a measure hunt activity in which students will find
objects that are either shorter, (about) the same as, or taller than the object presented in the
classroom.

Student Activities: 30 minutes

- Students will walk around the classroom to search for objects that are either shorter, (about) the
same as, or taller than the object presented by the teacher.
- There will be two objects presented
1. Skewer sticks
2. Bamboo sticks
- After the hunt is done, the teacher will call the students back to the floor space and allow them to
share objects that they find shorter, (about) the same as, or taller than the object presented.

Teacher Actions: 5 minutes

- After doing the measure hunt, the teacher will introduce realistic tools to measure objects
- The teacher will ask questions such as:
If I were to measure the door, would it be better for me to use the cards or the bamboo stick?
If I were to measure the height of a student, would it be better for me to use the bamboo stick or
the skewer sticks?

Closure: 5 minutes
- Also ask “WHY”?
Why is it better for me to measure with the bamboo stick?
Why is it better for me to measure with the skewer stick?
Allow students to share their thoughts and give them answers and examples why measuring with a
certain object is better than the other.
Resources Needed
- Bamboo sticks
- Skewer sticks
