Civilization
Project

Introduction
My civilization combines the best features of all the
civilizations we discussed in Unit 1 (Mesopotamia, Egypt, India,
China, Greece, Rome). It is the ideal ancient civilization where
you will discover the “Best of the Ancient World.”
Table of Contents

01 Geography
Pick a location to build your civilization from one of the early civilizations.

02 Systems of Government and Laws

Create the ideal government and legal system for your civilization from the early civilizations.

03 Achievements
Choosing from the civilizations discussed in Unit 1- describe the different technology/innovations, literature/art,
entertainment/sports and architecture you would include in your society.
01
Geography
I choose the Mesopotomia civilization. It had
the best location to sustain agriculture because
the regular flooding along the Tigris and the
Euphrates made the land around them
especially fertile and ideal for growing crops
for food.

—Info.
I choose the Egyptian civilization. It was the
most advantageous for defense against attacks
because the Nile River Valley was calm and
exceedingly productive and fertile. Unlike
Mesopotamia where there would be erratic
flooding, the Nile followed a predictable
flooding schedule and was easily navigable.
This made a natural barrier.
I choose the Egypt civilization. It had the best
location to provide for trade because Egypt
offered several valuable items to trade on the
Silk Road. It traded grain to the Italian and
Byzantine merchants calling in Alexandria. It
exported paper from papyrus both eastward
and westward on the Silk Road. Egyptians also
traded gold obtained from the south along with
some spices for food.
02
Systems of Government and
Laws
I choose the Greece government. (use types of
government chart to help)
It has the most fair and best form of
government for my civilization because
Tyranny also developed in ancient Greece with
leaders going over the law and leaders
exercising their power. Peisistratos was a
“benevolent tyrant who actually paved the way
for democracy. Tyranny was also seen in
Pheidon in Argos, Syracuse in Sicily, also on
Corinth.

Here
I chose Ten Commandments. It provided the
most justice and would be the most fair to all
social classes because it does not discriminate
against different cultures and it has been one
of the most followed commandments over the
years.
03
Achievements
Technology
I choose china. It was one of the most important and
significant innovations or technological achievements
because papermaking has traditionally been traced to
China about AD 105, when Cai Lun, an official attached to
the imperial court during the Han dynasty (202 BC – AD
220), created a sheet of paper using mulberry and other
bast fibres along with fishing net, old rags, and hemp
waste.

Innovations
I choose Romans. It was one of the most important and
significant innovations or technological achievements
because the Romans improved on the aqueduct and built an
extensive and complex network across their territories.
Literature
I choose China. It was one of the most important and
significant examples of literature or artwork from the
early civilizations because China is perhaps the most
successful centralized state in human history," Harl says.
"And at several points in human history is without a doubt
the greatest civilization that stayed on the globe.

Art
I choose Egypt. It was one of the most important and
significant examples of literature or artwork from the early
civilizations because perhaps the most romanticized of past
civilizations, ancient Egypt stood as one of history's most
powerful empires for more than 3,000 years
Entertainment
I choose Egypt. It was one of the most enjoyable forms of
entertainment or sporting events because The ancient
Egyptian civilization infused their society with the magic
and dance of ancient Egypt, they enjoyed their life to the
absolute fullest, and every festival or banquet or
celebration was only considered complete with dancing
and music.

Sports
I choose Grease. It was one of the most enjoyable forms of
entertainment or sporting events because contests included
footraces, the long jump and javelin throwing, wrestling, the
pentathlon (a combination of these five events), boxing, the
pankration (a combination of wrestling and boxing), horse
races, and chariot races.
Architecture

I choose Egypt. It was one of the most innovative and

impressive architectural achievements because Though
there were other civilizations that were emerging and
developing their own architectural style around a similar
time - such as the Sumerians in Mesopotamia it was the
ancient Egyptians who had the biggest influence on
modern architecture.
