ANGLES
ANGLE
An angle is defined as a figure
formed by two rays having the
same endpoint not lying on the
same line.
It is denoted by the symbol ∠.
• An angle divides the points on a plane into
three regions:
1. the point on the rays
2. the points in the interior of the angle
3. the points in the exterior of the angle

• The rays that intersect to form an angle are
called sides, whereas the common endpoint is
called the vertex.

Naming An Angle
There are two standard ways to name an angle.
1. An angle can be named using three capital letters.
Using this method, the first letter names a point on
one side, the second names the vertex, and the
third names a point on the other side.
2. Naming the angle using the vertex, as long as no
confusion arises regarding the uniqueness of the
angle.

Measuring Angles

• An instrument called a protractor is used to
measure angles.
How t o Use Pr ot ract or?
1.Place the center point of
the protractor on the vertex
of the angle to be
measured.
2.Make sure that the mark
labeled 0 on either score is
placed on one side of the
angle.
3.Read the scale where the
other side of the angle falls.

Pairs of Lines
Per pendicular Lines
Perpendicular lines are lines that intersect
at one point and form a 90° angle.
Int ersect ing Lines
Intersecting lines are lines that meet at a
point. When two lines intersect, they define
angles at the point of intersection.
Par allel Lines
Parallel lines are lines that never intersect.
The distance between the two lines is fixed and
the two lines are going in the same direction.
