Preliminary Activity
Please complete the survey below. This activity will help you reflect on your current understanding of
the different aspects in the Department of Education. How familiar are you with the following? Check
the appropriate box that corresponds to your answer.
Let’s see how you would apply the DepEd’s vision in responding to the following school scenarios. Write your
answer on the space provided.
Scenario 1:
Teacher Johanna is a Grade 7 teacher at Jacobo Z. Gonzales Memorial National High school. She encourages
her learners to demonstrate their love of country through practicing acts of kindness inside and outside the school
premises. Provide at least two ways of integrating this in her lessons. You may respond in 3-5 sentences.
Spiral Progressive Approach of K-12 curriculum enables students to connect disciplines and
ensures vertical integration and seamless progression of competencies. Teacher Johanna can integrate
love of their country first by encouraging students to attend Flag Ceremony every Monday morning.
Let students familiarise and sing with the heart the Philippine National Anthem and pledging
Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat ng Pilipinas. Second is encourage students to join Scouting
Organization in the school as it promotes patriotism and nationalism to the students.
Scenario 2:
One of the Grade 9 advisory students of Teacher Andrew is showing interest in joining scouting. However,
the student is very shy and timid. In what ways can Teacher Andrew help his learners to gain confidence and
participate in scouting? You may respond in 3-5 sentences.
Teacher Andrew can help his shy and timid student to join the scouting by giving him words
of encouragement and affirming him that he can do it. He could also help him by accompanying and
introducing him to the group so that he slowly gain friends and later on he will be comfortable with
them. This kind of students just need a push or encouragement from others especially from the
teachers that he could actually do what he wants to do.
In order to foster a child-friendly and safe environment in the class, Teacher Helga must be
aware and realize the rights of every child. She needs to cooperate with other partners to promote and
monitor the well-being and rights of all children, defends and protect all children from abuse and
harm both inside and outside the school. Moreover, to create an ambiance which is safe and
motivating to the students, Teacher Helga should encourage children to think critically, ask questions
and express their opinions. As a prefect of discipline, one of her duties also is to receive reports on
disciplinary cases, makes investigation and decides on appropriate sanction based on the Students’
Handbook. In this way she can exercise ways to promote a child-friendly environment. In addition,
she can provide emotional support, encourage healthy behaviours and practices and guarantee a
clean, safe, secure, and happy environment where optimum learning should take place and where
students stay and become the best out of themselves.
Scenario 1:
Teacher Luis is a Grade 10 guidance counselor and a Values Education teacher at Arellano High School.
One of his classes has a diverse religious background. One day, two of the learners insisted that the class
should start with a prayer led by an assigned student. This leads to a heated debate arguing about their own
religious and spiritual beliefs. How can Teacher Luis mediate and help resolve the argument? (You may refer
to Department Order (No. 32, s. 2013) and Department Order (69, s. 1990)).
To protect and strengthen the rights of every students to freedom of religion and non-
discrimination. Teacher Luis should explain to his students the importance of equality and fairness in
terms of religious beliefs. For instance, students with different religious beliefs should not be forced
to participate on any religious activity that is not allowed in their religion. He needs to emphasize in
his class the value of respect especially on other student’s practices in terms of religion.
Scenario 2:
The DepEd Core Values teaches us the love for God (maka-Diyos), love for fellow men (maka-tao), love
for nature (makakalikasan), and love for country (makabansa). Teacher Molina inspires his Grade 2 learners
to become a better version of themselves through exemplifying qualities and characters of our national
heroes. What classroom management strategies can Teacher Molina employ to encourage learners to apply
the DepEd core values in real life situations?
Teacher Molina may use classroom management strategies that will allow her students to
apply these core values that are also traits of our national hero not just inside of four walls of learning
but also in different real-life situations. She can provide students with different activities that will
allow them to apply these facets in school, at their home, and in the community. Even simple
routinely activities inside the classroom can be strengthened as students apply them in real life.
Write your own pledge of commitment in support to DepEd Strategic Directions. You may
write your statements in 3-5 sentences.
I, JAVER L. MATARO, promise to do my best to make mature and right decisions, holding
myself accountable to a high standard of integrity, hardwork, and commitment to my profession, I
promise to do my duty to serve others and my school. I pledge to give the best education for my students
and continue to uphold my dignity as a teacher. I promise to make the education of my students as my
first and most important priority, and I will exert more effort to learn new things and help my students to
learn to the best of their abilities.
1. In what ways has this module helped you reflect on the Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Strategic
Directions of the Department of Education?
This module enlightened me on what the real definition of a DepEd Teacher and that
now broad this job is. Most importantly, this module served as my refresher on the basic
knowledge I need to know as a teacher and on my responsibilities and duties towards my
students. It also gave me the sense of responsibility to uphold the DepEd Mission, Vision, and
Core Values. It truly reflected me on unveiling my real purpose as a DepEd teacher.
2. How has this module helped you clarify your vision and motivations in serving your learners better
and in promoting a learner-centered environment for them?
3. What are your personal beliefs and values that are aligned with the DepEd’s VMV (Vision, Mission,
and Core Values)?
I’ve always taught myself to be fair and equal to everyone. This is what I always look
up to when I face my student’s everyday and rekindle their eagerness for learning. I believe
everyone deserves and is entitled for equal and value-laden education. For me, the real learning
is not assessed by how a student’s gets merit on traditional assessment. Instead, it is on how
the student absorbs knowledge, continue it with values, and integrate and supply it in real life
situations.
It is a prerequisite for us teachers to know and to become familiar on the DepEd School Calendar
as it is our ultimate guide of all activities that will procure throughout the school year. Familiarizing the
Department of Education’s year round activities as early as the beginning of the school year would also
allow us to prepare ahead of time. In this way, we will be able to balance our scope of work and will
possibly come up with a successful results in every activity that will be undertaken. In the field of
teaching, preparation and time management is very important. Thus, there are times that we need to adjust
our personal things and space for the sake of not getting our profession be at risk. Those hardtimes and
difficulties may and can strengthens our capabilities not just as teachers but as an individual and in
building our professional careers.

Scenario 1
Teacher Lozano, the mother of one of your advisory students, visited you in the school because of a bullying
incident that you are not aware of. She was very angry and disappointed about what happened because the
incident was not addressed and resolved properly. Her daughter is still afraid and decided not to go to school
that day. The incident happened during Science time because the teacher was late to enter the class. You also
had other classes to attend to and had no chance to meet your advisory class during that time. Who should
you seek help to?
First, I will assess if the concern can be addressed privately between me and the concerned parents
and students. If not, I would seek help from the School Guidance Councillor to resolve the bullying
incident during science class. I will also communicate with the science teacher to hear out
regarding her late arrival and her awareness about the incident before she attended her class. I
would also refer the concerned students and contact their parents if the Guidance Councillor asks
me to. I will let the Guidance Counsellor handle the case and help him/her about the situation for
being the adviser of the students involved.
Scenario 2
Teacher Mary Ann, a fellow teacher whom you consider a friend, messaged you on Facebook and told you
that she will be absent tomorrow. She asked you to substitute all her five classes. Without letting you
respond, she already sent you the learning materials for her lessons tomorrow. However, you also have
classes to attend and your learners are expecting to deliver a performance task that they prepared for. What
are you going to do as a colleague and who should you direct her to?
As a concerned friend of Teacher Mary, I will respond to her immediately and inform her politely
that I cannot substitute her classes because I also have classes to attend to. I will also advise her to
inform the School Head instead about her absence so that the latter can plot a schedule for
substitution and assign teachers who have vacancies and can surrogate her class schedules.
Scenario 3
Lito, the class president of your advisory class, was elected as the president of the Supreme Student
Government (SSG). After three months, his subject teachers are having trouble with his class standing
because of his frequent absences and non-submission of required written and performance tasks. Lito is
getting overwhelmed with the various school activities he manages. What are you going to do as the
adviser?

The following are some ways that can help you create a motivating and conducive environment. How are
you going to illustrate these ways in your own classroom? Limit your response to 100-150 words per
question.
a. Hold and communicate high behavioral expectations for your learners and yourself.
Each and everyone of us has our own behaviour and our own adaptability means in coming
up with the environment. For me, it is indeed important to hold and communicate high behavioural
expectations for my students and myself. In this way, I am able to adjust, and I am able to find
ways on how to address problems that may arise in my classroom. I adhere on individual
differences, so I need to be responsive too on different situations pertaining to behaviour.
b. Establish clear rules and procedures and instruct learners on how to follow them. Give primary-
level learners, in particular, a great deal of instruction, practice, and reminding.
Establishing clear rules and regulations is really important in the classroom as these
maintain discipline and respect among everyone. As a teacher, I need to provide these as early as
the beginning of classes and I need to remind them on these rules at least once a month during
homeroom day. In this way, students are reminded that these rules and regulations are strictly
being implemented in our classroom.
Ask a colleague, either a fellow newly hired teacher or a fellow subject area teacher, on which they think are
the best ways to build relationships with their learners. Write your findings on the space provided. Limit
your response to 100- 150 words.
My two fellow teachers and both are dear friends of mine totally agree that the key to unlocking
student potential is by developing positive, respectful relationships with students. Teacher Lorelie
Calvara said that students will respond positively when a teacher is enthusiastic and passionate about
the content he/she is teaching. Everyone has terrible days including teachers. Everyone goes through
personal trials that can be difficult to handle. It is essential that your personal issues do not interfere
with your ability to teach. Teachers should approach their class each day with a positive attitude.
Teacher Rizza Mae Olimberio added that teaching and learning should not be boring. Teachers
should incorporate humor into their daily lessons. This may involve sharing an appropriate joke related
to the content. Humor comes in several forms and students will respond to it. They will enjoy coming
to your class because they love to laugh and learn.
What practices should be done by teachers to build good relationships with learners? Put a check (/) next to
the statements that reflects good practice and an “X” mark if otherwise.
Accomplish the oath below and write three tasks you intend to do that will help you promote trust and
fairness in your own classroom.
