ACKNOWLEDGMENT

First and foremost, we must give gratitude and praise to the Almighty God for His
numerous favors that enabled us to successfully complete the report. We would like to
express our deep and sincere gratitude to the lecturer, Dr. Suryani binti Ahmad, for giving us
the opportunity to do report and providing invaluable guidance throughout this report. We
have been greatly inspired by her enthusiasm, vision, genuineness, and motivation. She has
taught us the methodology to carry out the research and to present the report works as clearly
as possible. It was a great privilege and honor to work and study under his guidance. We
would also like to thank her for the friendship, empathy, and great sense of humor. We are
extending our heartfelt thanks to her husband, family for their acceptance and patience during
the discussion we had with her on this report.

Furthermore, we are grateful and want to express our deepest thanks to each of this
group members which is Maxswell Manggie Anak Zamry, Muhammad Saufil Rizal bin Mat
Lazim, Hizatul Fitri binti Aman and Syahiratul Filzah binti Roslan for all the advice and
cooperation to each other during the process to completing this full report. It was a very
valuable experience to each other in sharing an opinion and solution during the progress
while completing this report. Any attempt at any level will be satisfactorily completed
without the support and guidance of our parents and friends. We would like to thanks to my
other classmates who helped lot in gathering different information, collecting data, and
guiding us from time to time in making this laboratory report to success, despite of their busy
schedules they gave different ideas in completion of this report.

Finally, we want to extend special thanks towards our college as well because without
their resources then none of what is seen now could have been possible in terms of creative or
intellectual development.
ABSTRACT
CHAPTER 1

1.1 INTRODUCTION OF PRECAST CONCRETE WALL PANEL

Industrialised Building System (IBS) is a highly competitive industry, such as
construction, where profit ranges from 5% to 10% and risks are extremely high;
unfamiliar techniques can easily derail the 5% to 10% profit. An effective strategy must
be developed to sustain the market demand for IBS and to prevent housing developers,
contractors, and manufacturers from incurring unprecedented losses. This strategy must
consider the government's current policies as well as certain aspects of IBS's long-term
viability. It must concentrate on the need to achieve economies of scale in the IBS
industry and find ways to overcome the unfavorable perception and lukewarm response to
IBS. The goal is to make IBS the preferred mode of design and construction, so that
clients and stakeholders choose component standardization from the start of any
construction project.
The IBS is no longer a common term in the Malaysian construction industry. Until
now, no researchers have agreed on a single accepted definition of IBS. However, a few
researchers define IBS based on its characteristics and definition in a variety of ways. IBS
is also known as off-site construction in the literature (Pan et al. 2008), remote (Blismas,
2006), construction production, industrialization, and automation (Warszawski 1999), off-
site manufacturing, prefabricated buildings, pre-assemblies building (Gibb & Isack,
2003), prefabricated building, non-traditional architecture, and modern method of
construction (MMC) according to Kamar, 2009.
Warszawski (1999) described the process of industrialization, investment in
equipment, facilities, and technology to maximize production, reduce labour resources,
and improve the quality. These elements are interconnected and joint together to make or
improve performances of the building. Rahman and Omar (2006) said that the IBS as a
construction system by using prefabricated building systems. The manufacturing of the
components is done with machines, templates, and other forms of machinery and
equipment. Components manufactured off-site, once completed, will be delivered to the
General Assembly and erection of the construction site. IBS is defined as an integrated
manufacturing and construction process, carefully planned organization, and efficient
management, preparation and control of resources, activities, and results from the highly
developed components (Lessing, et al., 2005).
