Q4: Answer the following questions:( To be done in the notebook)

1.Why do plants absorb large amount of water, though they give out a large part of it by transpiration?

2. Donating blood is a noble act. Comment.

3. Rohit’s uncle was hospitalised and put on a dialysis after a severe infection in both of his kidneys. What is
dialysis and when does it become necessary to take such a treatment?
4. State the composition of urine. How much urine does an average adult pass out in 24 hours?

5. Why do arteries have thick elastic walls?

6. What is the importance of root hairs in plants?

7. State the function of pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein.

8. Explain how red blood cells are adapted to carry out their function.

9. Does transpiration serve any useful function in plants? Explain

10. What are stomata and lenticels? Write their important functions.

Extended learning: There is no substitute for blood. If people lose blood from surgery
or injury or if their bodies cannot produce enough blood, there is only one way to get
it- through transfusion of blood donated by volunteers. Blood is usually in short
supply. Donating blood does not decrease the strength of the donors.
