Manuals build-up according to ATA
3.8 Warnings, Cautions, and Notes
These adjuncts to the text shall be used to highlight or emphasize important
points when necessary.
• Warnings call attention to use of materials, processes, methods, procedures,
or limitations which must be followed precisely to avoid injury to persons.
Sample: WARNING: SOLUTION IS EXTREMLY FLAMMABLE.
• Cautions call attention to methods and procedures which must be followed
to avoid damage to equipment.
Sample: CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE CONTROLS.
• Notes call attention to methods which make the job easier.
Sample: NOTE: It is not necessary to relieve pressure.

7. Aircraft Maintenance Manual - AMM

The Aircraft Maintenance Manual contains all necessary procedures to
enable an aircraft mechanic, to maintain the aircraft properly.

Therefore it contains:
• System descriptions for all of the airframe and powerplant systems.
• Maintenance practices and procedures to:
- Service
- Repair
- Replace
- Adjust
- Inspect and Check the aircraft and its systems.
Each AMM is valid only for one Aircraft Type and usually it is customized.
The AMM is structured in accordance with the ATA-Spec 100.

7.2 Manual Structure
7.2.1 Preliminary Pages at the Beginning of the AMM
• List of Chapters
This is the List of ATA - chapters contained in the AMM.
• Record of Revisions
This record provides the AMM revision numbers and issue dates.
• List of Temporary Revisions
This is the List of Temporary Revisions (concerning all ATA - Chapters) which shall
be removed from the manual or which remain still effective.
• Service Bulletin List
This is the List of the Service Bulletins and Customer Originated Changes (COC)
which are applicable for at least one aircraft of the fleet.
• Deactivation/Reactivation Index
A Deactivation/ Reactivation Index quotes in numerical sequence all the MMEL and CDL
items requiring a maintenance operation with the corresponding AMM Task number.

7.2.2 Preliminary Pages at the Beginning of each AMM Chapter

• Highlights (HL)
The Highlights provide the reason for revision issues and the list of the incorporated
Temporary Revisions.

• List of Effective Pages (LEP)

The LEP list all effective pages for a given revision issue. New pages are indicated
by (N), Revised by (R) and Deleted by (D).

• Table of Contents (TOC)

Each chapter in the AMM begins with a Table of Contents. The Table of Contents
shows each section contained in the chapter and subject material within the section.

7.4 AMM AMTOSS Code

The Aircraft Maintenance Task-Oriented Support System (AMTOSS):

• was designed to improve the organisation of the AMM

• is a standard and unique numbering system
• is to provide a means for automated sorting, retrieval, and management of digital data
• is a logical approach to organizing tasks and subtasks
• is an expansion of the AMM ATA Chapter - Section - Subject numbering system
• is applied to the 200 through 800 manual page blocks
• provides:
- identity of the part being worked on
- the maintenance function that is being performed
- the applicability of the task or subtask

Element:
1 to 3 ATA Chapter six digit number.
4 Three digit numeric function code is used to indicate the particular
maintenance function involved.
5 Identification Number to provide numerical separation between Task and Subtask.
- Task idents begin at 801 and rise, in sequence, to 999 within the procedure.
- Sub-task idents begin at 50 and rise, in sequence, to 800 within the procedure.
Illustrations and tables are considered as tasks.
6 Alphanumeric Indicator
- First digit -alpha- to indicate a different configuration (modification, SB, etc.).
- Second and third digit numerals to indicate alternative methods/techniques.
7 Open for Airline coding.

11.3 SRM Page Block Allocation

In Chapters 52 thru 57 each subject represents a structural element.

All of the data concerning that element are covered within that subject.
To provide topic separation page blocks are used.

Page Blocks: Identification: Page 1 to 99

Allowable damage: Page 101 to 199
Repairs: Page 201 to 999

Chapter 51 has no identifying page block.

In this case a description page block could extent up to page 199.
