On the last Wednesday of every month (Friday for the first one), students in middle school will not be going to morning assembly. Instead, they will get a chance to hang out in the middle school wing of the building, socialize, eat breakfast, and catch up with their

All 6th grade students have been invited to enter a design contest for our 6th grade spirit T-Shirts. Shirt designs must be full color, mention 6th grade, and have a catchy spirit slogan somewhere on the shirt. Students have until th Wednesday the 26 to submit an original t-shirt design.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS


Students have begun their prep work for their original haunted stories. They will use the information they have gained from our fiction unit to develop, write, edit, and analyze their own stories as well as their classmates. The estimated completion date is October 28, 2011. I can develop a plot diagram for an original haunted story. I can create setting and character maps for an original haunted story. I can analyze the characteristics of the elements of fiction.

MATH WITH MS. KOVACS


Rotations 1/2: Students will be moving onto Chapter 3 and working on lessons 3-1 to 3-4. This next chapter is on representing, comparing, and ordering decimals. I can...compare, order, and estimate using decimals.

SOCIAL STUDIES WITH MS. TEXTOR


This past week students have been exploring various parts of the world and looking at the Earths physical features. For the upcoming week students will continue to discover the different physical features of the Earth and begin a project of creating post cards of these features around the globe. I can analyze the physical features of the Earth through the use of a video. presentation.

Rotation 3: Students are beginning Chapter 2 in their textbook which focuses on integers and rational numbers. Students will be working on lessons 2-1 to 2-5 this week. I can...model integer addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

SCIENCE WITH MRS. LEE


Students will be wrapping up their study of the Scientific Method, Lab Safety, and Lab Report Writing with a unit review and test early next week. While the next unit will be Models and Design, we will begin by covering measuring and the Metric System to prepare for our Models.

MEAP Testing 2011


October 18th: Mathematics October 19th: Social Studies Please make sure students receive a healthy breakfast before attending schools on these days. Here are some extra strategies to discuss with your child before taking these tests: *Always read the question twice. *Look carefully at graphs, pictures diagrams before answering the question. *Read ALL answers! Make sure you pick the BEST answer. * Use process of elimination to help you narrow down your answer. *Remember comprehension and vocabulary strategies. *Check over ALL work before handing in the test. *Do your best!

I can use my notes, textbook, and class review to prepare for my first unit test in Science.
