I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standards The learner will demonstrate and understand the important
aspects students need to develop when improving reading
skills on how to develop word recognition. This will help
them to apply and master the phonemic awareness,
alphabetic principle, decoding, analyze words and spelling
patterns, and to expand their sight vocabulary.
The learner will look, cover, write, check: They will say the

IV. PROCEDURE
PRELIMINARY Prayer:
ACTIVITIES
(5 mins.) 1. The teacher will ask a student to lead the prayer.
“Father God,
Thank you for this day. Thank you for the blessings that
you given to us. Father God , please guide our teacher to
teach us the lesson and we will be easily understood.
This is our prayer, in the name of Jesus Christ our great
savior, Amen.”

Greetings:

1. The teacher will greet the students and vice-versa.


“Good morning everyone!”

Attendance:

1. The teacher will look on the seat plan to check who are not
present.
“Okay! No one is absent for today./ Alright, ( name of the
student) is not around today.”

Classroom Management:

1. The teacher will remind the rules to be followed during class


hours.
a. Pick up pieces of paper around your seats.
b. Learn to participate during classes.
c. Do not talk when some is still talking.
d. Lend your ears to the teacher.
e. Listen Attentively.
f. Raise you right hand when you want to answer.

Review:

1. The teacher will show unscrambled word and picture and use
it to ask student’s prior knowledge by
“What is?”

Motivation:
The teacher will ask these following questions:
1. Who among you here has lack of word recognition? Kindly raise
your hand.
2. Does it affects your performance while reading in front of the
crowd with a loud voice? Say yes if you’re agree.
Reading of Objectives:
1. The teacher will ask the class to read the following
objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:


a. Apply the importance on how to develop word

b. Appreciate the topic based on their experiences.
c. Demonstrate a topic using the important aspects
when developing word recognition.
A1. ACTIVITY
(5 mins.) Activity: 3 Minute Talk

The teacher will instruct the activity.


Direction: The teacher will divide the class into two groups.
Each group should have their one representative to justify
their answer within 3 minutes based on the given questions.
The best speaker together with his or her group will be given
high points.

A2. ANALYSIS Follow Me!
(2 mins.) 1. The teacher would ask the class the following questions:
a. Based on the activity, how do speakers delivered their
answers?

A3. ABSTRACTION To develop word recognition, children need to learn:


(10-15 mins.)
 How to break apart and manipulate the sounds in words – this
is phonemic awareness.

Example: feet has three sounds: /f/, /e/, and /t/

 Certain letters are used to represent certain sounds – this is


the alphabetic principle.

Example: s and h make the /sh/ sound

 How to apply their knowledge of letter-sound relationships to


sound out words that are new to them – this is decoding.

Example: ssssspppoooon – spoon!

 How to analyze words and spelling patterns in order to become


more efficient at reading words – this is word study .

Example: Bookworm has two words I know: book and worm.


 To expand the number of words they can identify automatically,
called their sight vocabulary.

Example: Oh, I know that word – the!

A4. APPLICATION Assignment: (individual)

From the printed “Words Search Puzzle” I give, identify the words
that you are familiar with. Write your answer on a ½ sheet of
paper.

VALUING The teacher will ask reflective question.

ASSESSMENT The teacher will give a short quiz for the students.

(2 mins.) Direction: Answer the following questions in a 1/2 sheet of paper.

1. What are the important aspects to develop word
recognition in reading?
2. Kindly provide 1 examples in each aspect when
developing word recognition.
