SCIENCE
Quarter 2 – Module 1:
The Reproductive System of Human Being

Self-Learning Module
1
FOREWORD

This SELF-LEARNING KIT or SLK which is originally

an innovative Supplementary Learning Resource (SLR)
originally made, produced and contextualized by your
Science teacher in Grade 5 to meet the standards of
the K - 12 most essential learning competencies. This
is specifically made to comply with the pandemic
situation in answering the need of educating the
Filipino children especially in the Division of Mandaue
City during this new normal situation

This SELF-LEARNING KIT or SLK deals with the

human reproductive system. It gives emphasis on
parts and functions of the male and female
reproductive organs. It focuses on the ability of human
being to reproduce and become many.

This SLK seeks to help the learners to understand

the concepts of the human reproductive system as
part of learning and growing process.

1
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:
1. Identify the parts of male and female
reproductive system.
2. Describe the functions of the male and female
reproductive system

MOST ESSENTIAL LEARNING COMPETENCY:

Find words at the right in the puzzle.

 Describe the parts of reproductive system and
their functions.

The Male and Female Reproductive
System
Reproduction is the ability of a living thing to make copies of itself.
Reproductive system is important to ensure the continuity of life.

FunctiOns Of the different parts Of the Male

ReprOductive System:

Penis - is the external male organ with a tip called glans. It is covered with

foreskin that may be removed through circumcision.

Scrotum - is a pair of pouch-like sacs. It serves as skin covering of the

testes. It also controls its temperature because the testes must be
slightly

cooler than the body to produce sperm cells.

Testes (singular, testis) is the gland that produce sperm cells, and male sex
hormones called testosterone. Its temperature is lower than the
rest of the body.

Epididymis - is a narrow coiled tube that stores immature sperm cells.

Urethra - in males is the passageway of both urine from the urinary bladder

3
and semen from the glands.

4
Seminal Vesicles - are sac-like pouches attach to the vas deferens.
It produces a sugar rich fluid that provides energy to
sperm
cells' motility.
Vas Deferens is a long, muscular tube that serves as passageway of the
sperm cells released from the testes. It also connects the testes
to the seminal vesicle and urethra.

Cowper's Gland - also called as the bulbourethral gland. it is responsible in

releasing fluid that flushes out foreign matter and neutralizes the

acidic urine in the urethra.

Prostate gland - is a walnut-sized gland located between the bladder and

the penis. It secretes fluid that nourishes and protects the sperm.

-The male reproductive system is specifically responsible for producing

sperm cells.

- A sperm cell is needed to fertilize an egg cell.

- The sex hormones are also responsible for the development of

adult male characteristics.

The Female Reproductive System

The female reproductive system is made up of several organs which

include the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix and vagina. It is
specifically responsible for producing egg cells and supporting a
developing baby inside the mother's womb.

An egg cell is needed to in the continuity of human being..

- The females sex hormones are also responsible for the development
of adult female characteristics.

Functions of the different parts of the Female

Reproductive System:

Fallopian tube - connects the ovary to the uterus. It is also the site of
fertilization.

Ovary - produces the egg cells and female sex hormones estrogen
and progesterone.

Uterus - is also called the womb, the site of attachment of the fertilized
egg. Holds the egg for 9 months until delivery.

Cervix - the passageway which serves as the entrance from vagina to

uterus.

6
Vagina - serves as the birth canal during childbirth.

A. Draw and label the parts of the parts of the male

reproductive System using a separate short sized bond
paper.

B. Label the parts of the female reproductive system by connecting

a line from the drawing to the name words.

C. Read and answer the following questions based from the

two illustration.

1. Why are the male and female reproductive system important?

Let’s do more:

A. Write TRUE if the statement is true and FALSE if the statement is

false on the blank before the number.
1. Egg cell is the biggest cell in the female human body.
2. Female humans have only one ovary.
3. Three mature egg cells are released every month once
the female reaches puberty.

8
4. The mature egg cell leaves the ovary through the oviduct.
5. Fertilization happens in the oviduct.

6. The fallopian tube expands to allow the passage of

the baby to the vagina.

7. It is in the uterus where the fertilized egg develops

into a fetus.

8. Oviduct is also called fallopian tune.

B. Matching Type: Match the description in column A with the

reproductive parts in Column B. Write the letter of the
correct answer on the blank before the number.

Test yourself!
Directions: Read each questions carefully. Encircle the letter of the correct
answer.

9
1. Which of the following is the external part of the male
reproductive system?

passageway for the sperm from the testes to the seminal vesicle?
A. scrotum
B. urethra
C. prostate gland

D.vas deferens
4. What part of the female reproductive system releases the egg cell
and hormone like estrogen and progesterone?
A. cervix
B. ovary

D. vagina

5. What is the function of the reproductive system?

A. To throw out the waste

B.To ensure the continuity of human being

C. To help the bones and muscle move

D. To supply the body with heat and energy

6. What do we call gland in the male reproductive system that

10
nourished and energized the sperm cells?

A. Cowper’s

B. Penis

C. Urethra

D. Prostate

reproductive system most important?

A. Ovaries and testes

B.Cervix and urethra

C. Oviduct and seminal vesicle

D. Penis and vagina

9. Why do the testes need to have a lower temperature than the rest

of the body?

A. This is because the sperm cells will travel into the

female reproductive system.

B.This is because the sperm cells need a lower temperature

for them to develop and mature.

C. This is because the sperm cells need to be strong and healthy.

11
D. This is because the sperm cells temperature is very hot.

10.Why do we consider the human reproductive system important?

A. This organ system ensures the development of the sperm cells

B. This organ system ensures the continuity of the human race.
