1. Summary
The earlier Berthing Aid Docking System uses sonar technology to monitor the speed
of docking. However, there are unsolvable defects for sonar technology. If the beam of
acoustic is too wide, it always disturbs by the water produced by the stern propeller of the
nearby boats. What’s more, sonar detector must be installed under the sea and easily
destroyed. Thus, it is not convenient for maintance. As the development of radar and laser
technology in the 1990s, they are applied in ship berthing aid docking system and develop a
lot. The advantage of more reliable and precise function, jetty uses radar and laser
technology for berthing aid docking system.
Eminent produces marine equipment in designing, producing and managing for many
years. To meet the strictest requirement of port production management, we adopt advanced
technology and detective equipment for all kinds of situation. At last, Eminent has its own
technology of laser ship berthing aid-docking system.
Comparing with the same model of berthing aid system domestic and abroad, our
product has the following advantages: complete functions, advanced performance, reliable
work, high performance, investment saving etc. It is the first choice for clients about the
berthing aid monitoring system in large ports.

Two laser sensors that locate in the front of the system are installed on the jetty to
detective the distance from the two points of the ship. The system can calculate the speed of
ship based on the different distance in the fixed time. It also can calculate the angle between
the ship and jetty according to the distance of the two points. The system adopts computer
technology to detective the speed of the ships, record the docking process of ships and
transfer the datasheets to the large display mounted on the jetty. Then, it can used to guide
the docking and to prevent damaging the equipment of the jetty and ship because of the fast
speed or larger angle during docking.
The industrial computer and PAC controller can be used in the severe environment.
They are used for automatically search, catch, identify, follow-up the docking ships, control
and show the detective process and deal with and record the datasheet of the docking ship.
When the industrial computer gets any error, the main control PAC controller still can work
and record 100 datasheets of ships. After the industrial computer repaired, the docking
datasheets will be uploaded automatically to keep the entire system safety. It can replay and
print the docking process according to the requirement.
The key technology of the system is to develop the functional laser sensors with
computer output interface (The IP of the laser sensor is Grade 2, no harm to peoples eyes),
the detective range of the laser sensor is over 300m under no reflector condition. The
precision is 0.05m. Furthermore, developing friendly computer detective system, software
interface and better PLC control system are also key tasks.

2.2 Composition of the system
The basic configurations of the system are as follows:
Outer parts, connected with jetty, are composed by laser range sensor and cage. Indoor
parts are power supply, signal and cables.
The large LED display can help the workers from ships and jetty and pilots directly
know the condition of docking.
It also installs the real-time monitoring system of the ship. When the ship finishes
docking and begins to work, the system would automatically turn on. The workers can know
the distance between the ships and jetty in time. Then, Eminent sets the alarm limit. As long
as the distance over the pre-set range, the alarm will warn and attract workers attention to
dealing with.

Notes: Generally, the administrator of the software will set the system according to the
requirement of designing when the system was used at the first time. These settings cant be
easily changed. If required, the operator must use administrator password to change these
settings.
