Finds the Measure of Missing

Angle/Angles
Introductory Message

For the Facilitator:

Welcome to the Mathematics Grade 8 Self-Learning Module on Finds the

Measure of Missing Angle/Angle!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the self-learning module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies
that will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this self-
learning module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing
them to manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and
assist the learners as they do the tasks included in this self-learning module.
For the Learner:

Welcome to the Mathematics Grade 8 Self-Learning Module on Finds the

Measure of Missing Angle/Angle!

This self-learning module was designed to provide you with fun and
meaningful opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and
time. You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being

RECAP
What does Archimedes shout when he made a remarkable discovery
called “Archimedes Principle”?

To answer, state the Postulate or Theorem that justify each statement. Write
the corresponding letter above the answer in the decoder.
A. Alternate Interior Angles Theorem R. Same-Side Interior Angles
Theorem

E. Alternate Exterior Angles Theorem K. Same-Side Exterior Angles

Theorem

U. Corresponding Angles Postulate

DECODER:

!
∠1 ≅ ∠8 ∠5 ≅ ∠7 ∠6 + ∠7 = 180⁰ ∠1 ≅ ∠8 ∠1 + ∠4 = 180⁰ ∠2 ≅ ∠6

LESSON

When the lines are parallel to each other and is cut by a transversal, then

1. Corresponding angles are congruent.

2. Alternate-interior angles are congruent.
3. Alternate-exterior angles are congruent.
4. Interior angles on the same side of the transversal are supplementary.
5. Exterior angles on the same side of the transversal are supplementary.

There are many theorems/postulates that you can use to obtain the
measures of the different angles.

Examples:

1. If k ∥ l and 𝑚 ∠ 4 = 116º, find the measure of each of the indicated angles.

Solution:

𝑚 ∠ 1 = 116 Since ∠ 1 and ∠ 4 are corresponding angles, then they

are congruent.
𝑚 ∠ 3 = 64º Since ∠ 3 and ∠ 4 are interior angles on the same side
of a transversal, then they are supplementary.
𝑚 ∠ 2 = 116º Since ∠ 2 and ∠ 4 are alternate interior angles, then
they are congruent.
∠ 5 = 116 º Since ∠ 1 and ∠ 5 are alternate exterior angles, then
they are congruent.

2. Find the measures of ∠ ABC and ∠ BEF.

Solution:
𝑚 ∠ ABC ≅ 𝑚 ∠ BEF Corresponding angles postulate
2x – 45 = x + 3 Substitution.
2x – x = 45 + 3
x = 48

𝑚 ∠ ABC = 2x – 45 𝑚 ∠ BEF = x + 3
= 2(48) – 45 = 48 + 3
= 96 – 45 ∠ BEF = 51º
∠ ABC = 51º

3. Find x and the measure of each indicated angle.

a. If 𝑚 ∠ 1 = 7x + 15 and 𝑚 ∠ 5 = 10x – 9

Solution:

𝑚∠ 5 ≅ 𝑚∠ 1 Alternate-exterior angles theorem

10x – 9 = 7x + 15 Substitution
10x – 7x = 15 + 9 Combine similar terms
3x = 24 Simplify
3𝑥 24
= Divide both sides by the coefficient of x
3 3

x=8
find 𝑚 ∠ 1 and 𝑚 ∠ 5
𝑚 ∠ 1 = 7x + 15 𝑚 ∠ 5 = 10x – 9
= 7 (8) + 15 = 10 (8) – 9
= 56 + 15 = 80 – 9
∠ 1 = 71° ∠ 5 = 71 °

a. If 𝑚 ∠ 2 = 6x + 15, 𝑚 ∠ 4 = 9x + 30

Solution:

𝑚 ∠ 2 + 𝑚 ∠ 4 = 180 ° Same-side interior angles theorem

6x + 15 + 9x + 30 = 180 ° Substitution
15x + 45 = 180 ° Combine like terms
15x = 180 – 45 Addition Property of Equality (APE)
15x = 135 Simplify
15𝑥 135
= Divide both sides by the coefficient of x
15 15

x=9

𝑚 ∠ 2 = 6x + 15 𝑚 ∠ 4 = 9x + 30
= 6 (9) + 15 = 9 (9) + 30
= 54 + 15 = 81 + 30
∠ 3 = 69° ∠ 5 = 111 °
