MCQ ANSWER EXPLANATION

Though the other substances are excess in amount than the required, each and every
reactant needs to be in a fixed ratio to attain the desired product. So, thereby, the
1 a reactant that limits the quantity of the product formed is called limiting reagent and this
reactant gets consumed first completely
A balanced reaction may not have an equal number of molecules on both the sides,
2 c because molecules may combine into one or a single molecule may breakdown into
two or more. It can disassociate or undergo double decomposition.
4Al + 3O2 → 2Al2O3 is a balanced reaction because the number of atoms of different
elements on both sides is equal. The correctly balanced equations of the rest are
3 b 2H2 + O2 → 2H2O; Mg(OH)2 + 2HNO3 → Mg(NO3)2 + 2H2O and N2 + 3H2 → 2NH3

The chemical equation of water formation is 2H2 + O2 → 2H2O. Though we have 8g of

4 a hydrogen, here oxygen is the limiting reagent. So the only 4g of hydrogen can be used
to produce water i.e. 36g of water. That is 2 moles.
The chemical equation of formation of magnesium oxide is 2 Mg(s) + O2(g) ®
5 d 2MgO(s). The formula for calculation of mass percent is (mass of solute/mass of
solution) x 100. Therefore 2(24)/2(24+16) = 0.6.
The chemical balanced equation for combustion of methane is CH4(g) + 2O2(g) →CO2(g) +
2H2O(g). From the above equation, 1 mole of methane gives 1 mole of carbon dioxide. But 20g of methane
6 c = 1.25 moles, therefore it gives 1.25 moles of carbon dioxide = 44(1.5) = 66g.

6 CO2 + 6 H2O → C6H12O6 + 6 O2 is the balanced equation because the number of atoms of different
7 b elements is the same on both sides. Rest of them do not have an equal number of atoms of different
elements on both sides.
Excess reagents are reactants which are excess in amount and reacts partially in a
8 b reaction.
The balanced chemical reaction is CH4 + 2O2 -> CO2 + 2H2O, => If 4 moles of O2 are reacting
9 b only 2 moles of CH4 will react, this means CH4 is an excess reagent

The balanced chemical reaction is N2 + 3H2 -> 2NH3, => If 2 moles of N2 are reacting only 6
10 a moles of H2 will react, this means H2 is an excess reagent and N2 is a limiting reagent.

Moles of N2 = 28/28 = 1, moles of H2 = 10/2 = 5, Reaction is N2 + 3H2 -> 2NH3, => N2 is limiting
11 b reagent, => moles of NH3 = 2*1 = 2, => weight of NH3 = 2*17 = 34 grams.

The balanced chemical reaction is C6H12 + 9O2 -> 6CO2 + 3H2O, => O2 is the limiting reagent, =>
12 d moles of CO2 = (18/9)*6 = 12.

The balanced chemical reaction is Al2O3 + 3H2SO4 -> Al2(SO4)3 + 3H2O, => moles of Al2(SO4)3 =
13 a 10/3 = 3.33.
The balanced chemical reaction is NaCl + H2O -> NaOH + HCl, in this case H2O is a limiting
14 a reagent, => moles of NaOH = moles of H2O = 1.8/18 = 0.1, => weight of NaOH = 0.1*40 = 4 grams.

To solve this problem, we need to balance the chemical equation first:

CaSO4 + 2NaCl → CaCl2 + Na2SO4
Now, according to the balanced equation, 1 mole of CaSO4 produces 1 mole of
Na2SO4.
15 a The molar mass of CaSO4 = 40.08 (Ca) + 32.06 (S) + 4 * 16.00 (O) = 136.08 g/mol
To produce 1 mole of Na2SO4, we need 1 mole of CaSO4.
Therefore, the mass of CaSO4 required = 136.08 g/mol

CHEMISTRY STOICHIOMETRY - TPP

To solve this problem, we first need to balance the chemical equation for the
combustion of C2H6 (ethane):C2H6 + 7/2 O2 → 2 CO2 + 3 H2OAccording to the
balanced equation, 1 mole of C2H6 produces 2 moles of CO2.Now, let's calculate the
molar mass of C2H6:Molar mass of C2H6 = 2 * 12.01 (C) + 6 * 1.01 (H) = 30.07
g/molGiven that 88 grams of CO2 is produced, we can use stoichiometry to find the
mass of C2H6 required:1 mole of CO2 = 44.01 g (molar mass of CO2)So, the number
16 b of moles of CO2 produced = 88 g / 44.01 g/mol = 2 molesSince 1 mole of C2H6
produces 2 moles of CO2, the number of moles of C2H6 required = 1/2 * 2 = 1
mole.Therefore, the mass of C2H6 required = 1 mole * 30.07 g/mol = 30.07 grams.

The above given statement is a correct definition of stoichiometry.
