Learning to read, write and count is critical to a child’s success in school and
later in life. One of the best predictors of school success is the level of child’s progress in
these foundational skills. While literacy and numeracy skills increase as children grow, the
formative years, comprises the most important period of language, literacy and numeracy
development.
Specifically, the researchers would like to answer the following research questions:
1. What are the level of literacy and numeracy skills of Key Stage 1 Learners at Benigna
Dimatatac Memorial Elementary School?
2. What are the hindering factors affecting the improvement of literacy and numeracy skills of
Key Stage 1 learners at Benigna Dimatatac Memorial Elementary School?
3.What are the proposed interventions in improving the literacy and numeracy skills of Key
Stage 1 Learners at Benigna Dimatatac Memorial Elementary School?
Based on the results of the study, the researchers crafted an intervention plan
which is composed of the following parts: objectives, activities/strategies, persons involved,
resources needed and expected output. The objectives focused on the targets/things that
are needed to be solved, achieved and done which are all based on the results of the study.
The enumerated activities and strategies are the things that need to be done in order to
achieve the objectives. Together with man are the money and materials involved/needed in
the conduct of the different activities. The successful conduct of the different activities cited
in the action plan will result to the attainment of expected output
Data from the key informants gathered during the survey, and interview were
recorded with the permission from them. They were interpreted and were subject for analysis
and interpretation.
