1. The Students' Conjectures: (3 points: 1 point each)

1. What conjecture is being made?

+ 0 did not answer
Use video on page 1 of this assignment

Tell what relationships they are talking about:

between the angles
which relationships are useful for this problem
What key details are given?

2. The first angle is 35 degrees

3. It is meant for beginner skiers Tell about:
the fences
slower ski run

What is your plan of action? Make is safe by the skill of the skier is more intense then the
smaller hills

How about a diagram - what would it look like?

What about theorems and postulates?

2. Looking at the Consecutive Interior Angles (9 points)

Look at the diagram of the scenario below. A steep downhill ski slope is intersected at an
angle by a less steep ski slope. Safety fences need to be set up in the locations shown. The
angles of the fences, angles 1 and 2, can be determined by finding the relationship between
the angles a and b.

1. Draw a geometric diagram of this scenario using two parallel lines and one
transversal. (Remember that a transversal is a line which cuts across parallel lines.)
Label the angles, parallel lines, and transversal as indicated in the diagram above. (2
points)

2.

Starting with the fact that angles 1 and a are a linear pair and that angles b and 2 are
also a linear pair, use a two column proof to prove that consecutive interior angles a
and b are supplementary. (5 points)
3. Statement Reason

Angle A and Angle B are supplementary
Explain what the result of your proof tells you about angles a and b. Specifically, if you
measured one angle, what would you know about the other? (2 points)

They are supplementary if you measure the other angle you can just subtract it from 180
and get the second angles measurement.

+2
3. The Exterior Angles (6 points)

1. The fences will be aligned with the exterior angles ∠1 and ∠2. What are some other
relationships you can see between ∠1, ∠2, ∠a, and ∠b? (2 points)
2. 1+a=180 ok
+ 1.5
3. 2+b=180
4. 1=b ok what about
5. 2=a ok a + b = ______

Which of the relationships you listed above will be the most helpful in figuring out the
measurements of the safety fences? (2 points)
6. If you know one angle you can figure ever angle out because you can subtract the
angle you have from 180 and get the other 2 angles

+ 1.5

What is the measure of ∠2? (2 points)

7. 145 degrees + 1 show your work
4. Reflections (2 points: 1 point each)

1. Can you think of any other real-life scenarios where parallel lines and transversals
exist?
2. Roads/streets

+ 0.5 how are roads and streets parallel lines and transversals?

What are the limitations of the ski slope scenario as a real-life example?

+0
are the ski slopes in the scenario lines or angles?
They are not straight lines in real life. what would be more precise situations in real life with lines and
angles?
