The American Language Course (ALC) is a comprehensive, multilevel English
language program developed for vocational and professional purposes. Created by the
Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC), which operates under the
U.S. Air Force, the ALC is designed mainly for intensive classroom training but can be
adapted for slower-paced instruction.
The course's primary goal is to teach English to a diverse international military
population, covering general English topics as well as military-specific language commonly
used by military personnel. While its focus is military training, the ALC has also been
successfully applied in non-military environments, such as U.S. high schools with immigrant
students.
