1. What is DNA, what are its functions, and where is it located?

DNA, the secret of life, a microscopic stand of only four chemicals but capable of such
infinite variety that it carries the blueprint and directs the growth of every living thing on
earth. To find the functions of DNA, a technology called X-ray crystallography a
crystalline form of DNA is placed inside of the camera and when x-rays are fired through
it they scatter into photographic paper and forms and regular pattern, the experiment
kept on going. The blue molecule racing down the DNA unzips the double helix and
copies one of the two strands, this copy is then released for the next stage of the
process.

2.Did Watson and Crick 'steal' the research of Franklin and Wilkins? Does it matter?
Why do you think there was so much pressure to be the 'first' to discover the structure
of DNA?

I don’t think Watson and Crick steal the research of Franklin and Wilkins, just like other
scientists Watson and Crick had their own idea and same dream to discover how DNA
works. It doesn’t really matter, they all had different ideas which help them to each try
different techniques till they found the right one. There was so much pressure to be the
first to discover the structure of DNA because they were in a race to prove themselves
and scientist should work as a group to help each other because they all will be well
knowing , only one person is not going to take the whole credit.

3. There were 3 major things that Watson and Crick needed to know before they could
figure out the DNA structure. What are at least 2 of them?

They could solve the DNA structure by model building. The cross photo, which showed
x type of cross pattern which was an indication of the helix, from there Watson realize it
was a helix because he remembers getting a lesson from Crick the x-ray diffraction
theory and told Watson an x indicates helix. Chargaff data suggested that the four
chemicals in DNA might go together in pairs, to discover whether the shape of DNA
would tell them it would die.

3. Do you feel that the discovery of DNA has the potential to affect people's belief in
God? How so? if not, why not?

I don’t think DNA has the potential to affect people believe in God because science is
just discovering how things are created it is not proving anyone wrong. Well, it also
depends sometimes on how people want to think about. I believe in both it's more
knowledge and science discovers cool things.

4. In what ways has the discovery of DNA changed the world in the past 60 years?

In the last 60 years, the discovery of DNA has led to tremendous progress in the fields
of medicine, agriculture, the legal system. DNA showed how tackles people diseases
and know how to diagnose and treat. DNA fingerprinting is now widely used to find who
committed the crime. The DNA discovery itself is very amazing and from the video The
Secret of Life we saw how hard the scientist Watson, Crick, Franklin and others worked
how to discover DNA and its functions.
