Minutes Printing Costs: Due to escalating printing expenses, the chairman sought
parental permission to discontinue physical copies of minutes for future meetings.
Instead, soft copies would be distributed beforehand for review and discussion during
the meeting, aiming to streamline the process.
Fees Increment: Hon. Ekanem Brown discussed tuition Increment due to high
operational cost of running the school and his staff welfare. The initial 100% increment
was negotiated by the EXCOs and was reduced to 80%. After so many deliberations, it
was reduced to 50% for primary and 45% for the secondary section of the school.
Mrs. Ekanem Brown, representing the management, expressed gratitude for the attendees and
acknowledged divine protection over the students and staff. She commended the security
personnel's dedication to work. She apologized for any unmet expectations from parents.
The Father's Day event was a success. Mrs. Brown gave special thanks to Mrs. Comfort
Sawntong, mummy Othniel, mummy Aisha Bello, and Mrs. Luka for their contributions towards
making the event a success.
Amidst the merriment on that day, a contest amongst fathers resulted in Mr. Aya Yakubu and Mr.
Joseph. Abah. Enenche tying for first position with Mr. Dangana Zaza emerging third position.
There was no second position because of the two who tied same position. The winners of the
father's contest were promised amazing prizes. 100% free tuition for the fathers who tied first
position and 50% free tuition fee for the third position respectively, for the first term of the
2024/2025 academic year.
Ex-Students Visit:
Three alumni paid a courtesy visit to their Alma-matar You-Nik Tecnopreneurship School,
currently on Shell Scholarship due to academic excellence. The management praised their
achievements and encouraged them to continue to strive for excellence and to keep the flag
flying. She went further to also encourage all her students/pupils to strive for excellence.
The school joyfully announced the results of an impromptu mathematics examination held
within the state. Despite the students' lack of preparation, they returned with exceptional
outcomes, leading the school to emerge as the overall best in the state. The outstanding
students who brought pride to the school were: AALIYAH SULIEMAN, BLISS OBIAGU, ANGEL
ISHAKU, AND NAETO OBIAGU.
The mathematics competition encompassed three categories: primary, junior, and senior
secondary, all of which yielded remarkable performances. In the junior category, Naeto Obiagu
and Angel Ishaku tied for third place, while Bliss Obiagu secured the second position overall
best in the state in the primary category. The pinnacle of achievement in the primary category
was attained by Aaliyah Sulieman emerging the overall best in the state.
Junior WAEC Results:
Additionally, the results of the junior WAEC for the last session were unveiled, showcasing
exemplary performances by all the students who participated. Aisha Bello excelled in nearly all
her papers with 11As and 1C, Naeto Obiagu achieved 10As and 1B, and Praise Iniodu garnered
7As, among others.
Amidst the accolades, the school proudly announced the inauguration of its new branch in the
bustling metropolis of Abuja, specifically around the Idu industrial layout. Encouraging parents'
support and prayers, the school urged them to spread the word among their acquaintances
residing in the vicinity about the new branch. The management stated that the new branch at
the time only had: Reception, Nursery, and Primary 1-3.
Regarding school timing, the management addressed instances of tardiness among parents.
Emphasizing the importance of punctuality, the school urged parents to adhere to the stipulated
arrival time of 7:40 - 7:59 am. While recognizing the value of punctuality in instilling discipline in
learners, parents were implored to cultivate the habit in their children as well, with tardiness
being permissible only in exceptional circumstances and not as a habitual practice.
Pick-up time:
Concerns were also raised about parents habitually picking up their children past 6 pm, post-
school hours. The management disapproved of such behavior, advising parents to prioritize
timely pick-ups to ensure students have ample time for post-school activities like bathing, dining,
resting, and studying, highlighting the detrimental effects of prolonged stays at school on
students' well-being.
Parent's misconducts:
Addressing parental conduct, the management discouraged any form of hostility when
approached for fee payments, urging respectful and cordial communication for harmonious
coexistence.
The management brought to the notice of the parents about their children’s homework not done
properly or sometimes not even done. She urged parents to always guide their children while
doing their homework and not give or write answers for them. When that is done, the child may
end up not learning, which isn’t appropriate.
Director's speech:
During the director's speech, Hon. Ekanem Brown expressed gratitude to all attendees and
highlighted the school's history of prudent fee adjustments, with the last increment occurring in
the 2021/2022 academic session. According to him, over the years, the management was
considerate with fees increment. The last time fees were increased was in 2021/2022 academic
session, and since then, nothing was increased despite the high cost of running the school and
her staff welfare.
The school could no longer shoulder the expenses it makes in order to carter for the operational
needs of the school; so it decided to increase the tuition fees for this 2024/2025 academic
session for so many reasons. He stated that the initial budget that was submitted to the EXCOs
was a 100% increment but after the excos negotiated with the management, it was slashed to
85%.
0.7 A.O.B
During the (AOB) segment, a parent observed lateness to meetings. He suggested that there
should be a fine for parents who come very late for meetings and for those who don't attend at
all should also be sanctioned if need be.
Several parents voiced their concerns about the delays in receiving their children's uniforms and
books. The management acknowledged these concerns and assured them that she would make
every effort to address the issues promptly, The management clarified that such delays were
unintentional, often stemming from factors beyond their control like material unavailability for
production.
The management also stated that there is a fixed number of exercise books given to each
student with few extras.
A concerned parent raised an issue regarding the toilet facilities. She expressed dissatisfaction
with the lack of water for cleaning and flushing after children use the facilities, resulting in a
messy environment that could potentially lead to infections. In response, the director said that
he tries as much as he could to ensure that the school's needs are met promptly without delay.
He further stated that, a day without pumping water could be disastrous., and that was why the
school decided to increase her fees due to the high operational cost of running the school.
Several parents spoke on the issue of tuition fee increment. They were all in a plea to the
management to please consider reducing it from the 85% to something they could afford due to
the economic situations in the country. After so much deliberations, the director concluded on a
50% increase for the primary and 45% for the secondary school.
Though some parents were not too cool with the concluded fees Increment, they pleaded for it
to be reduced to 30% but the director of the school said that the school may not be able to
deliver its services if it is reduced to 30%. According to him, YOU-NIK has always being known
for its uniqueness and the quality of services it offers. Taking down some cost according to
some parents may cause a lot of setbacks which isn't what he wants for the school.
Some parents raised a suggestion for the school to allow the parents pay the fees in
instalments to enable them meet up with other responsibilities.
A concerned parent suggested that before the school uniforms are made, the children should be
measured properly to avoid cases of redoing or making another due to the children outgrowing
the wears.
A number of parents pleaded with the school on the issue of timing. According to them,
sometimes their lateness isn't an intentional act, but due to some unforseen contingencies. In
response, Mrs. Brown acknowledged their plight and requested that whenever they experience
cases like that, the management should be informed and they will be given access into the
school. However, she cautioned that parents shouldn't abuse the privilege when allowed into the
school after the stipulated resumption time.
A parent shared his concern about his child's health incident at the school. He wasn't happy but
the management apologized and promised to do better.
In his closing remarks, the chairman commended the director's benevolence while urging a
review of the budget to streamline expenses and alleviate the financial burden on parents. The
meeting concluded with a call for suggestions on events to enhance future Parent-Teacher
Association (PTA) meetings, emphasizing the desire to foster interactive and enjoyable
sessions with activities like fitness exercises, health checks, and pertinent social updates and
the likes.
0.9 Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned to a further date by Mr. Luka Alumbugu and was seconded by Mr.
Ari Liman.
