As the company grew, it eventually merged with a hotel REIT called Patriot American Hospitality (PAH). Patriot American organized the combined company as a paired-share REIT, in which Patriot owned the real estate assets and leased the hotels to Wyndham to run. In 1999, Patriot merged with Wyndham Hotels, forming a single company under the Wyndham name and dropping its REIT status. Regions: Wyndham is heavily concentrated on the Americas with 77% of their properties there. But Asia and Europe are growing much faster and also have on average larger hotels – only 70% of the total rooms are in the Americas. And with 1,406 hotels (17.5%) in Asia and 409 hotels (5.1%) in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, there are still a lot of options in those regions – certainly more than their budget competitor Choice Hotels (only 700 hotels outside the Americas)! Wyndham Hotel Group is looking to add 40 new hotels in India by 2020 as part of its expansion plans in the country, a senior company official said.
The company currently has 35 operational hotels with 3,258 rooms
under the Ramada, Ramada Encore, Howard Johnson and Days brands in India.
company is also planning to introduce some new brands in the
coming years such as Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, Wyndham Grand and Wyndham in India. Wyndham Grand is scheduled to open in Bengaluru in 2020.
