About Melbourne And Olympic Park

Olympic Park stadium was a multipurpose outdoor stadium


located on Olympic Boulevard in inner Melbourne. The
stadium was built as an athletics training venue for the 1956
Olympics , a short distance from MCG , which served as
Olympic Stadium. Over the years it was home for Rugby
League Side , Melbourne Storm and the A-League team ,
Melbourne Victory.

Facilities:
The park Facilitates hosting of basketball , netball , music concerts and other events.In
the past Melbourne Park has hosted ice skating , cycling , international swimming and
motorsport events.
Rod Laver Arena: Formerly Known as Centre Court , Rod Laver Arena has a capacity of
15000 and has a retractable roof. (TENNIS COURT)

Melbourne Arena: The secont largest court which was opened in 2000 has a capacity of
10500 and has a retractable roof.(BOXING , NETBALL , BASKETBALL , MUSIC CONCERTS)

Margaret Court Arena: Formerly known as Show Court 1 , Margaret Arena had 6000
seating but was renovated which increased the seating capacity to 7500 and added
retractable roof.(MUSIC CONCERTS , NETBALL)

Show Courts: Aside from a further 35 match day and practice courts many of which have
temporary standing of upto 1500 capacity attatched to them for Australian open , there
are 2 Show Courts in Melbourne park each with capacity of 3000 seating.(TENNIS COURTS
throughout the year)

Why I chose this Sports Complex?

I chose this because it is an important feature of Melbourne Sporting Culture and it is


growng Architecturally day by day. And Melbourne is also the Sports capital of the world.

Why I chose This Sports Complex?

Jamia Millia Islamia Sports and Games have played an important role in the evolution
of lamia Millia Islamia as a Central University. Jamia has now completed 96 years of
its academic life. Sports and Games definitely claim a fair share in the progress of the
institution.

The outreach of our infrastructure has grown regularly and is used not only by
students but also by corporate houses, NGO's, Amateur and Professional Sports
Associations and Clubs, DDCA and others. Ranji Trophy matches are a regular event
every year at the lamia Cricket ground. Jamia has also hosted Women's Cricket Test
matches, Women World Cup matches and Blinds Cricket World Cup matches in the
past.
