Followership is the foundation of leadership. Effective followership requires respect for authority, a positive attitude, integrity, self-discipline, listening skills, loyalty, and courtesy. Leaders must also respect authority, maintain a positive attitude, act with integrity, demonstrate discipline, and promote patriotism and loyalty. The relationship between leaders and followers is bidirectional, as effective followers take responsibility, ask questions, and further their own growth, while leaders communicate well and work to develop their subordinates.
