Mithya The Dark Chapter Review: Even Huma Qureshi Cannot Save This Not-So-Dark Sequel
About Mithya The Dark Chapter
After a web of lies, intense rivalry, family secrets and deep-seated grudges, Huma Qureshi returns as Juhi in the second season of Mithya: The Dark Chapter. This series is a sequel to the 2022 psychological thriller Mithya. The title, meaning untruth, is a perfect name for the show as it's all about partial truths and deception. In the first season, estranged sisters, Juhi and Rhea got to know about shocking revelations and later spiralled into a murder of a close one for which they are both suspects. As we move forward, the stakes get higher as the duo are out in the world to seek revenge against each other. But what lies next for them? Let's find out.
Mithya The Dark Chapter Review: Plot
Juhi, a Hindi language professor who is now a successful author faces plagiarism accusations with her latest book, Dhundh from a mysterious writer, Amit Chaudhary (played by Naveen Kasturia). The tension escalates as Juhi grapples with the fallout of these claims, which quickly spiral into deeper family secrets and conflicts. The series dives into Juhi's desperate attempts to protect her son, Yash while contending with her step-sister Rhea (essayed by Avantika Dassani), who has her own agenda.
Mithya The Dark Chapter Review: Direction
The series is directed by Kapil Sharma and is produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Rose Audio Visual Production. The second season is full of surprises, but the many storylines can be confusing. As Juhi fights against the plagiarism claims, the focus often shifts, bringing in new subplots that sometimes pull attention away from the main story. This made it hard for us to keep up sometimes.
Although the idea of a plagiarism scandal is interesting, the extra plots involving Rhea’s revenge and Yash’s kidnapping add complexity that doesn’t always fit well together. As a result, the series is filled with tension and drama, but it sometimes lacks clarity.
Mithya The Dark Chapter Review: Performances
In the last season, the story was perfectly packed which could be a full-fledged thriller film. But, in the latest season, the performances are definitely the highlight of the series. Huma Qureshi and Avantika Dassani bring a strong energy to their roles, making even their tricky decisions seem believable. The way the characters interact is central to the story.
Rajit Kapur adds weight to the family’s sad moments, while Krishna Singh Bisht plays Ronnie, Rhea’s loyal partner, with unwavering devotion. Naveen Kasturia, as the wronged author, shines in his brief but key scenes, showing both betrayal and a desire for revenge.
Mithya: The Dark Chapter also features Indraneil Sengupta, Avantika Akerkar, Rushad Rana, and Krishna Bisht in pivotal roles.
Mithya The Dark Chapter Review: Final Verdict
We were looking forward to the second season but it failed to impress us. In 2022, Mithya came with a fresh perspective but now, the plot felt scattered at times. Huma Qureshi does her best with the limited material she’s given, but even her charm can’t save this sloppy psychological thriller.
Apart from this, the major fallout for us was the plot twists which are neither shocking nor satisfying.
