Randolph Summary

History
Randolph was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Ohio, led by William Randolph. The town was named after him, and was incorporated in 1868. The first post office was established in 1857, and the first school was built in 1859.
The city was a major stop on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, and was a major shipping point for grain and livestock. The railroad also brought many new settlers to the area, and the population grew rapidly.
In the late 19th century, Randolph was a major center for the production of brick and tile. The city was also home to several manufacturing plants, including a flour mill, a creamery, and a furniture factory.

Randolph is located at 41°25'45"N 94°17'45"W (41.4292, -94.2958). It is situated on the banks of the North River, and is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.2 km2), all of it land. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the surrounding area.

The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
