Remsen is a city located in Plymouth County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,945 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Plymouth County.
History
Remsen was founded in 1876 by a group of German immigrants led by Father Francis Xavier Pierz. The city was named after the German city of Remscheid. The first settlers arrived in the area in 1856 and the first post office was established in 1858. The city was incorporated in 1881.

Remsen is a small rural community with a strong agricultural base. The city is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a pharmacy, and a variety of restaurants. The city also has a small industrial park.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,945 people, 790 households, and 517 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,621.7 people per square mile (625.3/km2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 705.8 per square mile (272.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.7% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 790 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.9% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.3% were non-families. 32.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 22.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
