Woden Summary
Woden is a small city located in Hancock County, Iowa, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mason City Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Woden was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from Norway. The town was named after the Norse god Woden, and the settlers brought with them many of their customs and traditions. The first settlers built a log cabin and a small church, and the town quickly grew. By 1883, Woden had a post office, a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a school.
In the early 1900s, Woden was a thriving community with a population of over 500 people. The town had a bank, a hotel, a newspaper, a creamery, and several other businesses. The town also had a large Norwegian population, and many of the town's residents spoke Norwegian.
