The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 2, 2014. Larry Meeker was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Incumbent Brett Hildabrand was unopposed in the Republican primary. Hildabrand defeated Meeker and Michael Kerner (L) in the general election.[5][6]

Kerner's opponents in the November 2 general election were Democratic candidate Bryan Cox and Republican candidate Kelly Meigs. According to official results, Meigs defeated Kerner and Cox with 5,647 votes; Cox received 2,962 votes and Kerner received 345.[9]
