I do enjoy learning about people who have made a mark on society and I wanted to review this because of that, and because I LOVED Samantha Wilcoxson's book Lithium: The Story of a Radium Girl.
I was, therefore, eager to experience another book by her.
But One Life was interesting, and I enjoyed learning about Nathan's life.
Samantha Wilcoxson's easy writing style is highly detailed, but in a good way, as it's a good way to really feel immersed in the book.
Thanks to Samantha Wilcoxson and Coffee and Thorn for my audiobook in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

As soon as I heard the title of Plot Twist, I was immediately curious. I use assistive technolgy to write books and short stories, and I have always loved words. I knew I just had to request the audiobook. I am so glad I have a copy, as the story is true-to-life, haunting and exciting all at the same time.
I really liked Becca, and her and Rea's backstory, and how they met as well as their friendship. I felt for Becca and the circumstances that led to her taking a break from life. How she met Riley was realistic, and, if I'm honest, I was just as keen as Riley's little girl for them to meet. I really felt part of Becca's journey, literal and spiritual.
I enjoyed witnessing the growth and change in all the characters, and loved the flashbacks to ten years ago, as they really gave more insight into Becca and Rea's friendship and life.
Breea Keenan is a very good writer, and she is a new-to-me author. Plot twist is a heartfelt, immersive story I will never forget, not just because these are the kinds of books I love, but because I could identify with the characters. I loved the writer jargon thrown in, and understand it because of my own projects. This made me feel even closer to the characters and story.
I couldn't get through Plot Twist fast enough: I felt I HAD to know what was going to happen.
The narrator, Joy McAvoy, was brilliant, and I think she was the perfect fit for this book. Plot Twist made me laugh, cry, hold my breath in anticipation, and root for Becca and Riley.

Tèmpesta is If the title isn't evocative and beautiful enough, the story within The Memory of Lavender and Sage will grip you. It has so many layers. Tèmpesta is a character who feels like she doesn't fit into her family. Her mother was born in Sainte-Colombe, a tiny village in Provence in France.
I've never been to Provence, but I do have some lavender beauty products bought back for me as a gift and I love lavender fields which is something the area is famous for.
Tèmpesta and her brother, Wal, grew up in Grenwich, Connecticut, but Tèmpesta's dreams of one day being in her mother's village have followed her throughout life.
I loved the details of Tèmpesta's upbringing and the little details her mother bought to their family home: the food she cooked, the rustic furniture and the colorful quilt. I felt Tèmpesta's love for her mother so strongly and my heart ached for her since her loss.
She had to try to conform to what her father wanted in terms of more modern, darker, monochrome home decor, and took 3 degree subjects. I was happy to find that two were of her own choosing.
What I loved about Tèmpesta was that she never let anyone define her, and was so loyal to her mother's memory and wanted to keep it alive.
I didn't like her grandmother Lucille, or Wal or her father, and was glad that Tempeste always fought to forge her own path in. life.
She was someone to root for, and I was thoroughly invested in this audiobook, which was so wonderfully narrated by Caroline Hewitt, who perfectly captures the book's atmosphere, plotlines and characters.
The writing is evocative and detailed. The pacing is perfect, like a sun-drenched summer day in lavender fields.
Aimee K. Runyan writes beautifully and this is my first novel by her. It won't be my last. I think I've found another favourite author.
The Memory of Lavender and Sage is a real, heartwrenching, realistic, and completely immersive winner of a novel that I won't forget in a long time. I listened to it in a day.

He expertly combines real-life issues and disability issues.
I have Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus. I am a powered wheelchair user too.
Something's Wrong with Micah reveals so many truths about living with disabilities, whether that's being a wheelchair user, or the symptoms people can get with their disabilities. Although I have different disabilities to Micah and Evie, I still have pain, nausea dizziness, spasms and more on a daily basis. The book was so easy to identify with because of this.
I felt very sad about Micah's father's death after the car accident where Micah was in the car too.
Other big issues that are dealt with are: who is really there for you in the bad times? Who sticks around for you? Who can Micah really trust?
The writing style is immersive and fast-paced.
It raises great awareness of disabilities, as well as how people and doctors can react.
I didn't like Chrissy's attitude after Micah's illness. She became quite selfish compared to how she was before it.
I felt Micah's frustration at having been gaslighted by doctors. I felt he was strong in how he dealt with the experience, and fought for what he believed in until he got answers.
His mother's unwavering support was a great thing to witness. Not every person with disabilities has this kind of support from parents.
Evie and Micah are beautiful together. They are so realistic.
Thanks to Jamison Hill for my audiobook and ebook copies.

I immediately liked Serena and Henry and enjoyed how the characters developed. I thought the pub was atmospheric, as were all the other settings. The writing was detailled and immersive.
The narrators were great and perfect for the story.

I have heard of pageantsI have Cerebral Palsy as well as Hydrocephalus and visual disabilities. I love fashion, so I really wanted to listen to this. I have heard of pageants and do know some people with CP who take part in them.
I liked Abbey's backstory and how supportive her family were. I know what it's like growing up in a town as a person with CP and the other disabilities I have: places aren't always accessible, and that adds more difficulties. I was fascinated by her life on the farm where she grew up.
From Abbey's descriptions of her movement and balance difficulties and from knowing others with her type of CP, it was easy to imagine what she goes through daily.
I have a different kind of CP and am in a powered wheelchair and rely on others for daily care and support.
The world of pageants has always fascinated me. I think there's a good side where participants are encouraged to love their bodies how they are, but I also worry about whether the organizers will respect each and every participant.
This was something I was concerned about with Abbey. She always did her best in every test and task. It was interesting witnessing how she went from one pageant to another and was constantly searching for a different pageant experience.
I felt caught up in the writing, and it felt like a cross between a memoir and a journal, which is what I liked. It was immersive and easy to listen to.
I did feel, however, that she glossed over the real exhaustion a person with CP feels during the day, or at the end of the day. I know everyone with CP is different, as one thing doctors and therapists always say is "No two people with CP are affected the same." This is true even if they have the same type of CP.
I know people with CP also have different levels of strength, stamina and pain tolerance. I was interested to find out how she met other girls in pageants and eventually organized her own.
Overall, The Courage to Compete: Living with Cerebral Palsy and Following My Dreams was an interesting and informative memoir. Abbey shows determination, strength and, as the title says, courage.

Love Letters: A Novella has a nostalgic You've Got Mail trope and I was glad to revisit this type of plot after so many years. There are vibes of Romeo and Juliet and also it's reminiscent of the movie Letters to Juliet becuse of the "sending a letter and waiting for someone to reply" plot line.
The pace is quick and there's good attention to detail. It's a good novella and I enjoyed the main characters and finding out how Sarah Ready writes in a shorter format.

Someone to love juggles the struggles and joy he finds with being a single dad. Does he need love? Will he find it? I was glad for him that he had his family to help out.
I was so happy to be back in Darling, VT as I love small town atmospheres in books and that, together with character creation, is what Donna Alward excells at.

Somebody Like You has great attention to detail, and is very romantic. Realistic storyline and characters. Aiden and Laurel had interesting backstories and plotlines. There are hard times as well as romantic moments. The narrator was perfect for the book.

The boy meets girl again he once knew. groupwork assignment and will-they-won't-they find a connection that's down to more than schoolwork/coincidence between them is one I've found in books before, but there are things that set Blinded Me With Science apart from other books with these themes.
I identified with the uncomfortable feeling of having to work with another student, and think so many people will, too..
Emmerson is a great character. She's focused and caring. Steel is kind of a know it all at times, and sometimes I felt irritated by him. I was really wanting to know if they'd get on or not.
The narrator was absolutely outstanding.
Blinded Me With Science is a quick listen and the romance and internal thoughts for both characters get very hot at times. We see them being confident, vulnerable, lusting after each other then in conflict and then doubting what they feel...it's a real emotional rollercoaster and the quick pacing with carefully chosen words and excellently placed visual details here and there makes for a great YA romance.
I didn't know it was book 2 in the series, but it reads like a standalone. I am eager to find the other books in the series. I didn't feel like I was missing things as sometimes happens with other series where I don't start off with book 1.
