King Level Rework
The most breaking change in this update is the King Level Rework. Gone are the days of King Level being tied to the tower levels.
Although tower level and card levels will still be capped at Level 14 max, King Level will have its own scale, and will be used to progress on the new Trophy Road.
Progression on the new Trophy Road will in turn unlock new abilities and new cards — and it is in the player’s best interests to upgrade their King Levels.
Conversion
The table here gives a brief conversion overview of how the King Levels are converted.
If your King Level is 9 right now, your King Level will be somewhere from 22 to 25 after the update.
Similarly, if your king is Level 14 right now, your new King Level will be anywhere from 42 to 50.
Champions Unlock
Before the update, champions unlock at King Level 14 (KL14). After the update, champions unlock at KL33, which is approximately around King Level 12 right now. There are other important details about this, please see Trophy Road for details.
Experience distribution
It can be easier to visualize these changes by looking at the amount of experience that will now be required to reach the last level; it has roughly doubled. This gives players additional progression to keep them engaged while not having gameplay related drawbacks like King Tower level disadvantages. And as mentioned earlier, players will get access to the first champions much earlier.

Say goodbye to Ladder
Clash Royale has changed a lot though the years, but ladder trophies have always been the main system to know the strength of players. This update is going to change that!
The Trophy Road that guides players as they climb arenas will remain here, but a new system will replace the strength measurement side: the Path of Legends. This is the new ranked mode that will test the limits of your skill as a player, and the new base for the global leaderboard. If you want to prove that you are a great player, this is the place to do so.
The 2 game modes will exist simultaneously on your home screen, and you can easily switch between them whenever you want.
Trophy Road
Trophies will now follow the progression of your account. Together with the new King Levels, they’ll be used to unlock arenas with better rewards and new cards.
Seasonal resets are going away for the Trophy Road, so you can think of it as a one time path that will give players a sense of completing the game when they reach the end. This will happen when they reach the Legendary Arena, at 7500 trophies.
Arenas
The old Trophy Road finished at 5000 trophies, with Arena 14. The remaining 2500 trophies until 7500 will be filled with 6 new arenas, all of which will have Level Gates to ensure that player progression remains balanced. Until you reach the required level of an arena, you won’t be able to play in it. These are the specific requirements that you’ll need to meet to enter into each arena:
Level Gates
# | Arena | KL | Trophies |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Goblin Stadium | 1 | 0 |
2 | Bone Pit | 2 | 300 |
3 | Barbarian Bowl | 3 | 600 |
4 | Spell Valley | 4 | 1000 |
5 | Builder’s Workshop | 5 | 1300 |
6 | Pekka’s Playhouse | 7 | 1600 |
7 | Royal Arena | 9 | 2000 |
8 | Frozen Peak | 11 | 2300 |
9 | Jungle Arena | 13 | 2600 |
10 | Hog Mountain | 15 | 3000 |
11 | Electro Valley | 18 | 3400 |
12 | Spooky Town | 21 | 3800 |
13 | Rascal’s Hideout | 24 | 4200 |
14 | Serenity Peak | 27 | 4600 |
15 | Miner’s Mine | 30 | 5000 |
16 | Executioner’s Kitchen | 33 | 5500 |
17 | Royal Crypt | 36 | 6000 |
18 | Silent Sanctuary | 39 | 6500 |
19 | Dragon Spa | 42 | 7000 |
20 | Legendary Arena | 45 | 7500 |
Trophy Floors
All arenas will also be Trophy Floors, meaning that once you reach it, you can’t fall back even if you lose battles.
When the update drops, there will no longer be an active trophy season, so there will be a reset and conversion into the new Trophy Road system. Players will be placed into one of the new arenas based on their best ladder season instead of this most recent one.
For now, it’s hard to say how fast players will be able to complete the Trophy Road, but we expect it to happen rather quickly for players who are already competing in Leagues thanks to the Trophy Floors and lack of season resets.
Path of Legends
This is the new mode to play if you are competitive! Once you reach arena 15, at 5000 trophies, you’ll be able to play this ranked mode.
Leagues
The 10 leagues you are used to are now here, but with level caps that place you on a leveled playing field against other players. As you climb to higher leagues, these caps will also increase.
The first 9 leagues are somewhat similar to the current ladder, but based on steps instead of trophies. Winning moves you up the steps, and losing can move you down. Through the path upwards there will be checkpoints that save your progress, known as Golden Steps, but they’ll become rarer as you advance to the highest leagues. Each new league you reach will also act as a checkpoint that prevents you from falling down. If you manage to climb 87 steps, you become an Ultimate Champion!
Steps
To get a sense of how challenging this could be, it’s useful to compare this system with ladder because we are more familiar with it. If 1 win is 1 step and also 30 trophies, 87 steps are around 2500 trophies. This means that reaching Ultimate Champion could be similar in difficulty to reaching 7500 trophies (5000 + 2500), probably leaning to easier due to the Golden Steps acting as safety nets.
Ultimate Champion
In the Ultimate Champion league there are no more steps, only a player rating based on your battle record. We’ll share more details of this rating system when we can. For now just keep in mind that all battles that you play after reaching Master I (4th league) will matter for your rating.
Update 2022-11-02: Ratings will be calculated from Master I instead of Master II. There’s currently a bug in the system where all the battles from Path of Legends were used to calculate the original rating upon entering Ultimate Champion. Supercell will be fixing this issue soon. source
Rating
This player rating is what sorts the global player ranking. The top 10K get a rank displayed in their profile, and the top 1K players are listed in the Global Leaderboard, now known as the Hall of Fame. Local leaderboards will be removed provisionally until the new ratings stabilise.
Reset
Path of Legends progress will be reset monthly like the current ladder seasons. Depending on your final league placement you’ll receive a multiplier that acts as a boost at the start of the season to help you get back to where you were before.
The first reset is going to be slightly unusual due to the transition from ladder trophies. Path of Legends will be available as soon as the update drops, and seasons always reset the first Monday of each month, meaning that November 7th is the next scheduled reset. As a consequence, the first ranked season will be shorter, lasting just 2 weeks. The ladder trophies that are reset when the update drops won’t count as a ladder season, so you can remember Dominik as the last ladder winner in CR history.
New Season
On November 7th a new Path of Legends season will begin, and players will keep playing with whatever multipliers they have earned based on their season finish.
It’s worth noting that a change of this scale involves a lot of moving parts, and it’s impossible to predict precisely how players will interact with it and how the rating system will evolve. Many of the specific values on multipliers and league details are subject to change once there are results to evaluate them.
Player profile changes
A change in the main feature of the game also needs to be reflected in player profiles, so they will now display scores for both the Trophy Road and Path of Legends. Additionally, profiles will display a League section with information about your performance in the current ranked season, and a Legacy Best section with your best result in the old ladder system.
Miscellaneous
Card Unlocks
All of the card unlocks have been significantly re-arranged, with the goal focusing on having Epics and Legendaries match the player’s card levels as much as possible.
With this new change, the first Epic will be unlockable in Arena 6 (1600) instead of Arena 2 right now, and the first Legendary unlockable in Arena 11 (Electro Valley) instead of Arena 4 right now. This will solve one of the major issues in lower arenas since the very beginning — having overly powerful epic and legendary cards ruining the player experience because of their early introductions in the game.
Here’s the new unlock configuration:
Party Mode
Party Mode is still here — but it’s been moved into the burger menu.
Level Up Chests
Level Up Chests inside the King’s Journey are also still here. But since there are 50 levels instead of 14, the chests are now smaller.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What happens to my trophies when update is live?
Clash Royale will perform a “final reset” of trophies for all the players who are in the current leagues. This will be like a regular season reset, but instead of using your last trophies count, the game will use your Highest Trophies aka Personal Best.
For example, let’s say that your highest trophies is 6600 trophies. When the update is live, a season reset will be applied which sets you to 5960. This will be the starting point of where you’re at on the Trophy Road. As a reminder, the trophy resets are:
Trophy Range | Leagues | Reset Ratio | After Reset |
---|---|---|---|
0-5000 | No League | 0-5000 | |
5000-5999 | Challenger | 50% | 5000-5500 |
6000-6999 | Master | 60% | 5600-6200 |
7000+ | Champion | 70% | 6400+ |
Reset Ratios are only applied to trophies above 5000. To use the same example, 6600 trophies has an excess of 1600 over 5000; using the Master league ratio of 60% with those 1600 trophies converts them to 960. Those 960 trophies are added back to the 5000 base, resulting in 5960.
Since you’re over 5000 trophies, Path of Legends will be immediately available to play. The season will obviously be shorter than usual, and so if you are aiming for the top spot, it will take some effort.
After the season reset on November 7th, everyone will be placed in League 1 again — together with any multipliers you’ve earned and the first “full” Path of Legends will begin.
Will I be able to collect Trophy Road rewards again?
Rewards below 5000 trophies can only be collected once. So if you have already collected them then they won’t be available for collection anymore. If you currently have rewards below 5000 that you haven’t collected, then of course you will still be able to collect them after the update.
When the update is live, you will be reset to specific trophies. Using the example in the previous question, if a player has 6600 PB and gets reset to 5960 trophies, then he will be able to collect all the rewards from 5000 to 5960 trophies.
Since the new arenas in the Trophy Road above 5000 will have trophy gates, and there won’t be any season resets anymore, you will not be able to collect those rewards again in the future.
What happens if you battle in Trophy Road after reaching 7500 trophies?
You can still play in this casual mode. When you win battles, you’ll still get victory gold and get chests from your chest cycle. The only difference is that your trophies won’t go up anywhere and you won’t be able to improve your “PB”. Since 7500 trophies is also a trophy gate, you won’t be able to go down from 7500 either.
So playing battles at 7500 will be similar to playing a 1v1 showdown battle in party mode right now — earn chests and gold, but won’t affect anything else.
