Edgeville is a small town located at the border of the Wilderness, west of the Grand Exchange. It is commonly visited for cutting Yew trees, burning logs, and cooking raw fish caught near Barbarian Village, and in members worlds for smelting bars in the Edgeville furnace.
In the early development of RuneScape Classic, Edgeville only had empty buildings. It was originally called Ghost Town on the world map, but when the Wilderness was released it was renamed Edgeville and given a general store and bank.
Before the updates of 10 December 2007, Edgeville was a very popular town for player killers, clans, and free-to-play players who would use the nearby low level Wilderness for duelling, and traders of player killing-related items such as food, various potions, weapons, runes, and other combat-related items. This area was the location of the Mod Hasmo riot, which occurred during the same time as the Pay to Pk Riot.
After the 10 December 2007 update, popularity dropped, although updates such as the Bounty Hunter update and the addition of the Edgeville furnace helped it regain to some of its previous popularity.
Since the Free Trade and the Wilderness update on 1 February 2011, Edgeville has returned to its old popularity. Along with the Grand Exchange, the town received a major graphical update on 9 August 2011.

- The Paddewwa Teleport spell can be used to arrive in the south-western section of the Edgeville Dungeon a short distance away to the ladder leading to the Yew trees south of Edgeville bank.
Features[edit | edit source]
Bank[edit | edit source]

Edgeville only has one bank, which is in the very centre of the town. It is popular for runecrafters because it is the closest bank to the Mage of Zamorak who can teleport you to the Abyss.
Before the Update:Changes to PvP and Bounty Worlds, and gravestones update there was a table surrounded by a few chairs on the western wall of the bank, but during the update this was changed to a simple bench along the wall. Interestingly, the bankers resemble Grand Exchange clerks.
Stores[edit | edit source]
Edgeville General Store[edit | edit source]
Edgeville has a general store with two floors. The ground floor[UK]1st floor[US] has the trader NPCs, while the 1st floor[UK]2nd floor[US] has a range that can be used for cooking.
Oziach's Armour[edit | edit source]
The shopkeeper, Oziach, sells Rune platebodies, Blue dragonhide bodies and Mystic robe tops (blue) if the player has completed the Dragon Slayer quest. All of these items are much cheaper on the Grand Exchange than at this shop.

Trees[edit | edit source]
Edgeville has two yew trees just a little south of the bank in a destroyed building. This area is used for clue scrolls which contain a specific cryptic clue.
Edgeville also has several nearby oak and willow trees.
Dungeons[edit | edit source]

Edgeville has a dungeon entrance right beside the yew trees in the destroyed building. It is an underground dungeon and is home to a variety of monsters, including skeletons, hobgoblins, zombies, and Hill Giants. The giants' lair had been expanded by Jagex several times over the years. It is often full of players fighting hill giants because of the giants' drops, which include big bones.
For members, there is a part of the dungeon that is actually in the Wilderness. In this part you can find chaos druids, earth warriors, black demons, lots of red spider egg spawns, and the demon Chronozon for the Family Crest quest.
In this dungeon you can also find the Slayer Master Vannaka.
At the far east side of the dungeon, there is an Agility shortcut that leads to the Varrock Sewers.
The Stronghold of Player Safety provides both free players and members a new dungeon similar to the Stronghold of Security, which is located only a short distance south from it.

Minigames[edit | edit source]

Soul Wars[edit | edit source]
The Portal to Soul Wars Island is located west of the yew trees and South-west of the bank.
Deathmatch[edit | edit source]
Deathmatch is a safe player versus player minigame that replaced the Crucible. The entrance to the minigame can be found north east of the Edgeville bank, by the Wilderness wall. In it, players can fight against up to 29 opponents in an arena, aiming to get as many kills as possible in 10 minutes. Regularly spawning power-ups make the battles more interesting.
Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]
Ranges[edit | edit source]
Edgeville has a range and a stove, which are apart from the names the same thing. The range is on the 2nd floor[UK]3rd floor[US] of the general store and the stove is in the small house west of the bank. The stove is very close to the bank, so it is a great place to withdraw food, cook it on the stove, deposit it in the bank, and repeat.
Water sources[edit | edit source]

Players can obtain water from a well with a bucket west of the bank or from a sink in Evil Dave's (mother's) house west of the bank. The well is nearer to a bank than any other water source available to non-members.
Jail[edit | edit source]
Players used to be able to fight the guards at this jail. The jail was made inaccessible during Edgeville's graphical update on 9 August 2011. The iron mace now spawns outside. The jail building is destroyed by the Dragonkin during the epilogue of Ritual of the Mahjarrat.
Leather gloves[edit | edit source]
Leather gloves spawn just outside the bank, once picked up a new pair will appear (approx) every 15 minutes.
Furnace[edit | edit source]
There was a furnace added in the 10 September 2007 update. Prior to its expansion, movement, and door removal to use this furnace required at least Varrock armour 1 to be worn, but after that update the armour is not needed for use, wearing the Varrock armours only gives the bonus smelting chance. However, you still need to have completed at least the easy set of the Varrock diary. In the same room at the furnace is Jeffery. This furnace can only be used on a members server. Even if you completed the tasks, the furnace is unusable in free worlds.
A player can inspect the furnace to receive Froggi, the smithy's apprentice.

Small obelisk[edit | edit source]
A small obelisk for recharging Summoning points lies to the North-east, by the bridge.
Beacon[edit | edit source]
After completion of the All Fired Up quest, members can light a beacon on the edge of the Wilderness wall, as long as they have level 62 Firemaking.
Wilderness teleport lever[edit | edit source]
With the 16 June 2009 update, there is a new teleport switch leading to the high-level Wilderness from the ruined building south of the bank. The Edgeville lever is one-way only and goes to same destination as the Ardougne lever: the Deserted Keep in level 56. Bring a sharp object, such as a Knife (the one on the tool belt will work), to cut through the web to get out of the Deserted Keep. Be aware that is a risk of running into PKers if PvP is enabled. Note that if you pulled the lever from Edgeville and pull back the lever again, you will end up at the Ardougne lever. This can thus be used as an one-way Edgeville to Ardougne teleport.
Artefact of King Black Dragon[edit | edit source]
A pair of artefacts are located in Edgeville and the King Black Dragon's Lair. Activating the artefact in Edgeville will transport the player to the KBD lair.
Canoe hub[edit | edit source]
Players can access the canoe transport system on the east side of the river near the guard post and the grand exchange shortcut. Hari is at this canoe station and from here players can access Lumbridge, the Champions' Guild, Gunnarsgrunn or level 35 Wilderness close to the Wilderness herb patch. The locations are dependent on Woodcutting levels in order to create the appropriate canoe to travel the required distance.
Quests[edit | edit source]
- Dragon Slayer: players must talk to Oziach after they have started the quest in the Champions' Guild. Oziach is located west of Edgeville.
- Garden of Tranquillity: the player may throw their Ring of Charos down the well in Edgeville in order to progress with the quest.
- Recipe for Disaster: the house to the west of the bank (namely Evil Dave's Basement of Doom) features heavily in the Evil Dave section of the quest.
- The Great Brain Robbery: players must find an ancient prayer book to help save the monks.
- Gunnar's Ground: players must exchange a poem for a gold ring from Jeffery.
- Ritual of the Mahjarrat: the Dragonkin attack Edgeville and char the town.
- Evil Dave's Big Day Out: the start point of this quest is in Evil Dave's Basement of Doom.
- Rebuilding Edgeville (miniquest): Mandrith recruits the player to clean up Edgeville after the Dragonkin attack.
- Heartstealer: Caelyn Kadaan is waiting upstairs in the warehouse building north of the Edgeville bank to start a heist.
History[edit | edit source]
The area that is now known as Edgeville was historically the town of Paddewwa. According to the Varrock Museum, it was destroyed during the God Wars and became known as Ghost Town. In the Year 169 King Roald of Varrock renamed the town Edgeville[1]. The quest Wanted! describes a conflict referred to as the Edgeville incident, which is also referenced in Legacy of Blood. It took place in the area in year 161 of the Fifth Age. The antagonist Solus Dellagar was reported to have killed over 800 civilians.[2]
In 169, the Necrosyrtes Dragonkin Strisath, Sakirth and Sithaph attacked Edgeville in an attempt to cool their rage and to bring destruction following Lucien's use of the Stone of Jas. The trio spat their very powerful dragonfire around the town, burning significant parts of it. The strong warrior Mandrith attempted to help people and saw a glimpse of the assailants, but could not believe his eyes that they were Dragonkin. One of the most damaged houses, aside from the guards' house, is the former house of Lucien, whom Sakirth killed shortly before the attack.
The appearance of the town has been significantly altered as a result of the attack. There are charred scars on the ground of the main pathway leading to the Grand Exchange. Trees, crates and stalls on the pathway are burnt and give smoke. There is also a burnt skeleton right outside the barn. The guards' barracks in the northeast is devastated as a result of fire. The remains inside are still burning in ember. By the sixth year of the Sixth Age, the town has been rebuilt by the World Guardian at the request of Mandrith.
The ruler of Edgeville, at least from the Fifth Age until the events of Murder on the Border, were ruled by Duke Hoarse, who was considered to be somewhat unpopular by his people. He was invited to attend a feast at the newly constructed Fort Forinthry, but died from food poisoning during the event as part of a plot by Bianca who wanted to kill King Roald instead. Hoarse's will decreed that his pet spaniel Princess would rule, but because a dog was not legally allowed to rule, the lands were instead inherited by his sister, who subsequently exiled both Princess and his fiance Rodney from the lands.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

- Edgeville was probably named as such because it is on the edge of the Wilderness.
- The infamous Falador Massacre happened here on 6 June 2006; and in other neighbouring cities.
- In the building housing the furnace, there are four shelves with cylinders of metal: bronze, iron, steel, and either silver or white metal. If the top shelf holds the latter, this would be the only appearance of white metal in an un-smithed form.
- According to the map of DeviousMUD (the forerunner to RuneScape), Edgeville was originally to be called "Enville" (similar to the French En ville or "In town").
- An open coffin near the yew trees has an examine info that reads: "I see dead people". This is a reference to the 1999 film "The Sixth Sense".
- While the Edgeville furnace has a chimney coming out of the top, there is no hole in the ceiling for the smoke to escape.
- Edgeville is the only bank in RuneScape to have 2 deposit boxes instead of one deposit box.
- A huge rock appeared on 2 July 8 pm GMT (approx.) near Edgeville bank. The rock couldn't be examined or interacted with in any way. (This was later removed when Clan Citadels were released).
- The small ridge running the length of Edgeville's west side was removed on 17 August 2011, making it easier for travel between Edgeville and places like the Body altar and the Edgeville Monastery.
- There was recently a glitch inside the Edgeville General Store where players would stand either side of the shelves, and one of the players would then teleport to the other player, this has been fixed.
- The floor inside the guards' house is the same as the one in Daemonheim's warped floors.
- Before Lodestones were added, you could only Home Teleport to Edgeville if you had Ancient Magicks.
- The staircase in the Edgeville bank would lead straight into the wall on the 1st floor[UK]2nd floor[US].
- The rock to the west of the Fairy Ring can be used as a cooking source. When you use a raw fish on it, a dialogue box pops up saying "can you smell, what the rock, is, cooking?". This is a reference to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his iconic phrase from his wrestling career.
- In Old School RuneScape, the furnace is available to free players and has no requirements to use.
