The lumberjack outfit is an experience-boosting set dropped in pieces by Undead Lumberjacks in the Temple Trekking minigame. Lumberjack clothing, when worn, gives extra Woodcutting experience for cutting logs. This includes experience gained from chopping ivy, obtaining lumber from a Woodcutting skill plot, participating in the Evil Tree Distraction and Diversion, chopping vines around overgrown idols, hacking thatch spars from any of the three densities of jungle, and repairing the village fences during the Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup minigame. This does not include experience for the minor experience from failing to cut a thatch spar. Level 44 Woodcutting is required to wear lumberjack clothing.

Experience boost[edit | edit source]

Item XP boost
Lumberjack hat 1%
Lumberjack top 1%
Lumberjack legs 1%
Lumberjack boots 1%
Sub-total 4%
Set bonus 1%
Full set 5%

A full lumberjack set can be stored in the armour case in the Costume Room of a player-owned house.

The 5% experience boost does stack with bonus experience.

Obtaining[edit | edit source]

Lumberjack clothing is obtained during Temple Trekking, during the broken bridge event. In half of these events, three undead lumberjacks come out of the water; killing them all gives a 1/10 chance to drop a piece of this outfit that you haven't yet gotten.[1] It is extremely unlikely to get this event at the first intersection.

The fastest way to obtain the lumberjack set is to guide somebody who has the ability to tell what event lies ahead. This gives 3 opportunities to find the broken bridge event at each intersection. Rolayne Twickit has an advantage of being able to see ahead at only level 20, whereas the other NPCs only gain this ability after their third level tier. The best strategy is to:

  1. Start your journey with a traveller that has the look ahead ability.
  2. Rush through the first intersection by either quick-continuing through easy or look ahead and choose which path is easiest for you.
    • Your goal is to simply rush through the first intersection as fast as possible
  3. At the second intersection, click each path to see what's ahead. You're looking for any mention of a bridge or repairs. If you have the bridge option then continue down that path.
    • If none of the three paths are the bridge event, hop to a new world. You can do this quickly by pressing the Escape key, then "Hop Worlds", and choose a different world to switch to.
    • Once you have world hopped, talk to the adventurer that is standing near the sign and choose continue. (Chat 1)
    • You will now be back at the second intersection with new event paths. Check each path for the bridge event. Repeat these three steps until you have a bridge event.
  4. Once you're at the bridge event you can wait in front of the bridge to see if the undead lumberjacks spawn. (They will spawn 50% of the time[1]) If they do, kill them for a 1/10 chance at the next piece of the lumberjack outfit.
  5. Once you kill the undead lumberjacks or they do not spawn, hop to a new world.
  6. Talk to the adventurer next to the sign and choose continue. You do not need to start over until you get a piece of the outfit.
  7. Once you get a piece, repeat from step 2 until you have received the full outfit.

If you fail to pick up the piece dropped by an undead lumberjack, it will still be available from Diango and you will be able to collect it from him.

After the Temple Trekking revamp, the undead lumberjacks will drop the pieces in order, starting with the boots, then the hat, legs, and top. Missing pieces will be dropped before duplicates of the set. The pieces also became far more common drops after this update. All of the lumberjack items can be obtained on any of the routes. Additional pieces of the lumberjack outfit can be received once a set has been completed.

      • The undead lumberjacks will drop the pieces in order, starting with the boots, then the hat, legs, and top. Missing pieces will be dropped before you get duplicates of the set. All of the pieces are now far more common drops. In addition, all of the lumberjack items can be obtained on any of the routes.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The description for the clothes reads, "You'll certainly be alright wearing these", referring to "The Lumberjack Song" in the British comedy sketch television show Monty Python's Flying Circus. This is one of many references to Monty Python found in RuneScape.
  • On the first day of release, there was a glitch where players were not able to receive the boots as a drop. It was much easier to get the other clothing pieces before this was fixed.
  • In the past, lumberjack clothing failed to apply its experience boost when chopping ivy. This has been fixed. Now it incorporates the extra experience directly into the total experience earned by chopping.
  • The outfit received, as with all the other experience-boosting sets existing at that point, an increase to the boost it provided, from 2.5% to 5%. This update occurred on 26 September 2012, but went official on 28 September alongside the 4 new experience-boosting sets.
